He doesn't have any other options. Chiellini is no left back, he offers next to nothing in attacking sense. De Sciglio is obviously going to be Italy's left back for at least next 10 years, so it's wise to let him get some valuable experience against tough side like Brazil in this meaningless tournament and let him improve to get ready for WC.
Well that isn't comforting. No left foot and no real skills cutting in, ala Zambo.
