2006 Italy midfield, had Pirlo and Gattuso on their prime plus Perotta who makes up a lot of ground with his tireless running. DDR was an upcoming star as well. I would not say the current midfield is better than the 2006.
De Rossi barely featured that worldcup and even when he did he was average at best. Same goes for Perotta as far as average performances go.

When he played, it was nowhere near midfield but rather on the right side upfront in a 4-3-3.

I'll take any of this season's Noccerino, De Rossi and Marchisio over the 2006 Gattuso and Perotta:)lol:) any given day.

From the QFs onwards I think Camo played as an LM in a 4-4-1-1
Yep.

Buffon
Zambrotta-Materazzi-Cannavaro-Grosso
Camoranesi-Gattuso-Pirlo-Perrotta
Totti
Toni

It was pretty much like this, with Perrotta playing more as a LM than as a winger. Perrotta is an average player indeed but he was actually effective in that formation, he did his job. He allowed Grosso to get forward a lot while covering some ground to enable Pirlo to concentrate on dictating the play.

You look like a boss in that pic. Is that where the queen lives, Buckingham palace? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you own that place.

Del Piero/Totti-Vieri $#@!s all over it. The squad at WC 2002 was awesome.
Yeah but it was always a little static for international play... although that was probably the midfields fault. 96 was pretty fluid attack but we got ambushed by brilliant Czech generation and choked to Germany.

This 2012, looks the most dynamic even though individual class doesn't match up.
