Maldini blasts Osvaldo call
Former Italy Coach Cesare Maldini demands Cesare Prandelli explain why he called Pablo Daniel Osvaldo rather than Alessandro Matri.

The Azzurri boss brought in Osvaldo for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Serbia and Northern Ireland after Giampaolo Pazzini and Mario Balotelli pulled out.

“Prandelli should certainly be asked for the reasons that pushed him to call up Osvaldo and not Matri,” Maldini told Calciomercato.it.

“I think he called the former Espanyol striker in an emergency situation. I ask myself how a forward like Osvaldo, after only a few games with Roma and a brief spell in Italy with Bologna and Fiorentina, can so easily earn the Azzurri jersey.

“In any case, Prandelli’s position towards foreigners had already become clear when he called up Thiago Motta.”

Although Osvaldo was born in Argentina, he played for Italy at Under-21 level and is of mixed heritage.

Fuck you Prandelli for this. I appreciate him and the work done to Azzuri but with this decision he proved to be cunt.

20goals in Serie A > 17 goals in la Liga

Matri> Osvaldo. I don't know wht Matri didn't get the call and i agree with Maldini.

Seems to be basing his view on how unimpressive he'd been in Serie A before moving. I'm not saying I'd take him over Matri either, rather the other way round in fact.

I only remember him from his previous stint in Serie A. Forgettable at the time. He make that much of a leap forward in Spain?
He advanced his overall game quite a bit, became a lot more willing (in my opinion, anyway) to get into possession and make things happen himself. Enough to get more than Roma interested as well (Atletico followed him).

they don't play defense in Spain, much more space to operate and easier to score. Look at Etoo when he moved to Inter, it took some time for him to adjust, look at Forlan he looks horrible in SerieA thus far, he was like a machine in Spain.

This. For Italy to play with a winger (or wingers) they have to be better than what is currently available to Prandelli.
He's going to get a rude awakening. Apart from Balotelli, we have nobody that genuinely beat a man on the dribble, or even provide some speed through the middle.
Having 4 slow CM's pass the ball around might work against a 50% Spain team missing their best players, but it's laughable to think we can worry big teams.

Seriously how does Aquilani get a game ahead of him. As Aquilani value (22m-16m-6m) drops yearly (now he can't even play ahead of 35 yo seedorf)... but Cerci's just a flash in the pan wanted by ManCity.

EDIT: Well after doing some digging... Appears Cerci gets around (bedroom wise) and players don't want him in the team. Shame.

3-1 at HT. Just seen the goals, Fausto Rossi scored the equaliser and it was a right foot cracker from 25 yards.

Borini's sending off was dumb and bs, he got a second yellow card for running back onto the pitch before the ref signaled.

Gabbiadini scored the other two and he looks a handful, big Vieri-like striker who pinged a couple in with his left foot.

The Liechtenstein goal was a free header from a keeper mistake I'd say, they look shit though, as expected.
