Are they playing like Spain?
Forget playing like Spain, Im so sick and tired of hearing Spain this Spain that! So they're having a great period but Itay has the pedigry and experience not to need to mimic any other nation. We have 4 World Cup titles, have had much more success than Spain. Forget Spain, BE ITALY! Build a young squad and get back on track to winning trophies! Prandelli is doing a fine job, I just wish he would play Balo more and call up Abate!

is it too much to ask for this lineup?

...... Rossi..Balo..Cassano
..Montolivo..Pirlo...DeRossi
Maggio..Chellini..Ranocchia..Abate
................Buffon
Hmm 3 man midfield would be very light against strong teams and i'm starting to think Cassano isn't more than a sub.

I'd go -

----Balo-----Rossi(Pazz)
-------Montolivo-------
DDR(March)---Motta(Noc)
-------Pirlo(Motta)-----------
----------Defense-----------

but with Maggio and Abate as external defenders, don't you think they could move up and assist the midfield? the 4/3/3. DDP is a good DF that could fall back and assist the defense at key times too. The formation I suggest wouldn't have defined roles, the players would have to play off eachother and read the other team to know when to move up and when to assist the back and the midfield. I think it would take a lot of practice to make it perfect and could look ugly at the start. We could use it in the next 2 games and schedule some friendlies to get better at it. Its a whole different mentality from the one we are used to on the Azzurri I guess.

:D

yep, it's 11 vs 11 and the ball is pretty round too

To be honest, I'd play Criscito and Abate as fullbacks.

Buffon
Abate-Ranocchia-Chiellini-Criscito
De Rossi-Pirlo-Montollivo
Rossi-Balotelli-Cassano
I'd like to see this.
Put Balzaretti in place of Criscito - for a lack of a better LB - and you've got my vote ;)

P.S. Hard to believe that a paring of Ranocchia-Chiellini is the best Italy can come up with at CB these days :sergio:

It's one thing to get your midfield to play with more technical skill and keep possession but when things heat up, we'll be back to the usual formula.
Strong defense, tactical midfield, clinical offense (hopefully).

I know, Italy doesn't produce the talents it used to do, mainly because the coaches are pussies since they don't want to use youngsters.

Ranocchia is pretty good though.

The Frog is a pretty good talent, with good potential ... a player, who could potentially develop into a proper CB. Unfortunately for Italy, he ended up at Inter and the word "potential" will likely be the key word in his career.

I thnk Rossi needs to start. I would start him instead of Pazzo and bring Pazzo in for Cassano at the 60th minute mark.
