most people who casually manipulate images dont need all the features photoshop provides, nor do they want to waste their time and effort on learning to use it.

photoshop is useful for people who have a particular interest in graphics or have use for many of its hi-end features and thats it.

oh, and your analogy is flawed. it would work better if we were talking about manhattan for example, where some people would consider parking expensive, traffic a problem, and vandalism/theft a problem(especially if your drive a relatively pretty car)

Even when I'm making small changes though, I find MS Paint to be extremely clumsy and annoying.

i had to use paint for a day when i had to reformat my computer and had to wait a while to get PS back. I literally couldn't make myself a new avatar with that junk.

Even when doing simple things like resizing images, adding borders etc, the difference between doing it in Paint and PS is immense in terms of efficiency.

Well how the bloody hell would I know anything about Manhattan? :)

I can't believe I'm actually having this debate :lazy:

another analogy: the difference between 166 MB for Photoshop and __MB for MS Paint is like the difference between paying $20m for Adriano and getting Emile Heskey for free. In other words, it's bloody well worth it :)

Photoshop is more efficient if you've put the necessary hours in. Id find it a sexy beast if was a graphics person myself.
that's not my point though; what I'm saying is that PS is much more functional and user-friendly on all levels, whether you want to resize a picture or do professional graphics design. Something that you want to achieve in paint that would require "put the necessary hours in [sic]", could probably be done in a few minutes in PS, without learning the program in-depth

i have photoshop. i needed to make a flyer for a show and....well use your imagination.

i could have used the text function in paint, pasted pictures etc and would have been done in 20 mins max.

instead i was left fiddling with vectors and layers, calling 3 different people up to explain to me why the vectors automatically changed to bitmaps when i did an action, etc etc.

i guess we should agree to disagree on the effectiveness of ms paint. remember the gobbi thread?

even if you were done in 20 mins max, I don't imagine it would've looked like anything but shite if u did it in MS Paint :)

Who told you to use vectors in the first place? Photoshop is bitmap based software, and you can use the text function and paste pictures just like you would in paint, only it's made easier by the very-easy-to-understand layers function.

Actually I don't remember that thread, but you're right, you're never gonna convince me that MS Paint is useful for anything, except in the hands of a master who could make something like, say...a picture of a Juve player carrying mickey mouse trophies. Oh wait :lazy:

As much as MS Paint pictures can have a certain entertainment value because they're so ridiculously tacky, giving it credit for such a thing would be like saying Paramatti's a good player because he entertains the crowd by showing them how crap he is
