AUSTRIAN MEDIA FULL OF PRAISE FOR ORANJE

The Austrian media couldn't have been more obvious in their match reviews and didn't hide their adoration for the Dutch side.

"Austria was lucky to escape with a mere 3-0 loss against a superior Dutch side!", was the conclusion of Der Standard
"The players were always one step behind their counterparts and even if our squad had finally plans of attacking, they would strand after one pass. Krankl and his men were saved from a huge humiliation in the second half by the conquerers themselves."

Austria coach Hans Krankl expressed the difference in quality between the Austrian and the Dutch National Teams in that same newspaper: "The Dutch coach flies to Barcelona, Manchester and Turin to look at his players, I drive to Pasching and Ried!"

"Holland simply ran over us", was Krone's reaction. "Everything we said and thought after the victory on Belarus turned out to be one big Fata Morgana. Krankl was completely helples while watching his men being trashed by the football gods in Orange."

Newspaper Kurier was searching for words to describe the match: "The football feast was quickly turned into a football lesson. The Dutch were playing search the ball with us. It was not football but art they produced and Herzog & Co simply didn't have a reply..."

    WINGERS ARE SHOWN THE DOOR

The easy victory over the Austrians didn't just satisfy the players and the fans but he media too. After a more than disappointing WC qualifying there is hope again for better times!

"The dark days of the Van Gaal Empire haven't been forgotten yet but the National Team gave the colour orange it's shine back last night to wipe out the remaining darkness left by Van Gaal after an easy dismantling of a helpless Austria."

"All doubts have not disappeared yet but Oranje has shown it's vitality under Advocaat and Van Hanegem. The players really appreciate the relaxing atmosphere these coaches use and have regained their wil to play!", was the final conclusion of Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant.

Het Algemeen Dagblad spoke about excellent team play with one department on the pitch in particular, "There were no weaknesses against Austria. All fronts were placed and held comfortably with the excellent midfield under Edgar Davids deserving extra credit!"

That same newspaper noted that the wingers weren't missed at all during the match, "For the first time under Advocaat were the wingers erased and immediately this was the best performance since the 6-1 battering of Yugoslavia during Euro2000. What more evidence do we need to conclude that wingers are of no use nowadays and we should abolish them? Finally a conclusion to the discussion that's been held in our country since Euro2000!"

De Telegraaf came to that same conclusion, "The most remarkable aspect last night was how well 4-4-2 functioned as opposed to 4-3-3. Surely the winger-era is over now!"
