Category: Match Reports

Outstanding Juventus knock Ascoli down with 3 goals in 18 minutes thanks to Trezeguet’s hat trick. The Frenchman’s first goal occurs after 7 minutes. Emerson regains the ball at the edge of the area, passes it to Camoranesi and the latter to Trezeguet who controls the ball and puts it in with an unsaveable left-footed drive (0-1). After 11 minutes, Del Piero attempts on goal on a free kick but the ball gets out. The second goal occurs on 12’ minutes: Del Piero serves for Camoranesi, he crosses to the middle for Trezeguet who shoots a right-footed drive in from a two-step range (0-2). The hat trick arrives on 18’ minutes: Del Piero starts a great action from the left, he dribbles Domizzi and serves Trezeguet in the middle of the box and the latter scores with a left-footed strike (0-3). Trezegoal gets close to the fourth strike on 25’ minutes but this time Coppola clears and counters Trezeguet’s attack. Buffon’s first intervention takes place on 30’ minutes, when he easily saves Fini’s free kick from the left. However, on 33’ minutes Ferrante, following Comotto’s cross pass, drives a right-footed shot in and it’s 1-3. That’s when the game’s pace rises but the home side cannot worry the Bianconeri anymore and the latter nearly score the fourth goal on 34’ minutes with Del Piero who, served for by Trezeguet, engages Coppola in a difficult save and again on 36’ minutes when the Captain, dashing forward, is anticipated by the goalkeeper. In the final minutes, it’s Camoranesi’s turn with a shot from the short distance but the ball ends narrowly out.

The second half starts with no change on both side and gives no big thrills on the pitch. Capello’s side manage their lead with great care and Ascoli cannot get dangerous. At the start, Del Piero threats the opponents’ defence in a couple of occasions while Ferrante’s header and Foggia’s free kick both miss the target. At about mid-time, both coaches make a couple of substitutions each: Quagliarella and Giampà replace Fini and Bjelanovic for Ascoli and Ibrahimovic and Mutu get in in place of Trezeguet and Camoranesi for Juventus. In the last ten minutes Cariello replaces Ferrante and Zalayeta is the substitute for Del Piero. On 39’ minutes, Nedved’s attempt is easily saved by Coppola. One minute later, the Czech starts a good attack, the ball gets to Ibrahimovic but he’s anticipated by a defender in the penalty area. It ends with Capello’s side gaining the deserved win by 3-1.
