It could be interesting to have two CMs (him and locatelli) on the field, at the same time, who aren't just so easily pressed into passing the ball backwards.

Even before that injury he looked out of gas after 60 minutes in every match. It'll be a while before we see him play regularly, I hope Allegri transforms him into a better player.

Does he have the defensive ability and the work-rate to play in our midfield in the tougher games? I think he'll be a player that Allegri throws on for the last 20 minutes to play keep ball when we're leading and perhaps starts him in some easier games.

Pjanic didn't have either but was an Allegri favorite. They are similar in so many ways with Pjanic obviously being the much better set piece specialist. if Arthur can get more courageous with his forward passing, I can see Allegri deploying him in the Pjanic role.

Yep that's the one role where I see Allegri deploying him but we're currently not really playing with three proper midfielders. Would need to change the system a bit to and move Locatelli further forward to fit him in. Bentancur - Arthur - Locatelli midfield probably lacks that midfielder who gets into the box that Allegri usually likes to have in his midfield.

Doesn't have the physical or the defensive attributes to play as a mezzala for Allegri either. He'll be one of Allegri's projects, will be interesting to see what Max does with him.

I've no doubt Max will give him chances, look at his competition. McKennie plays like he has given up on football and Ramsey gets fatigue from sitting on the bench, that automatically puts Arthur 4th in pecking order behind Bentancur, Rabiot and Locatelli. In most of the lineups they're competing for 3 places, if Arthur does the basics at even a decent level, he'll be a regular, that's how poor the midfield situation is for us atm.

He definitely needs a handful of games in a given position to see what he can do for the team. I have no doubt he can pass further than 3m sideways or backwards. I still think the midfield looked better with him than without him...he was able to hold onto the ball which seemed to be too hard for others last season. In a more organised team with tactics that players understand, I think he could be more useful than others getting playing time now. His passing range is better than what we have seen.

I see him playing as regista..simply because bentancur can't and is fixed in his current role, and locatelli plays his best as that LCM in a midfield trio.

that's a legit concern. but we have 5 subs now so we can afford players only lasting 60-something minutes.

Arthur played as the second CM in 4231 in Brazil.

In current setup, he'll play Ben's role.

Tinkerman experimenter Max will prolly try him as regista at some point but won't stick with it unlike Pep Pirlo. Obviously a foreign role and not his forte. Not only lacking in passing range but even gave the ball away, only time I've seen him do that.

We've a team full of "2nd CMs" and no ideal regista, DM or mezzala.

Thing is, I don’t actually know for sure if Arthur is better than Bentancur.

They are both very different players in many ways, both have some serious flaws.
