you should try to hook up with guys that can..they ll pick on you at first but you'll learn a whole lot and that type of camaraderie is very important when goin out in the ocean ;)

When I was in Hawaii last month, I struggled heartily on a surfboard as well. I fared far better at body surfing, as usual, even if I "grounded" myself frequently when hitting shore -- to the point where the sand gave my chest a dermabrasion of about 5 layers.

And yes, while I live only minutes from the Pacific Ocean, hanging out on the beach bores me most of the time too.

Well, unless it gets warm and there are scantily clad supermodels nearby. But in Northern California, as opposed to SoCal, you're just as likely to come across a fireplug of a woman with more hair on her pits than I have on my head. :yuck:

that is, if you find a beach within 30 miles of SF . no, that little boat docking station off pier 39 doesn't count :D

I know some people who do Ocean Beach pretty regularly, which you can hit with the N Judah line. But that's a really crude spot. About as fun and as pretty as surfing the wake of a North Sea oil tanker.

If you head a little further down in Pacifica to Linda Mar Beach, things get better. The regular surfers there have memorized the pay phone at the Taco Bell there, so they can call in the morning and get conditions. ;)
