Emerson - I never rated him something special, I think he and Gattuso could be on the same level.

Vieira ownes them both.
The sentence in bold can't be passed that subtle.

I consider Gennaro Gattuso as being the best defensive midfielder I've ever seen. I think that football pundits created the word "destroyer" to describe Gattuso. Gattuso is a pure defensive midfielder. Thus, hinting at the skills and the main role that should be accomplished by that position is essential here.

A world class defensive midfielder has to be tough, strong, quick, takes proper positions at the proper time, knows when to share in attacking without affecting his main role "defending and clear up the area in front of the back four" and having a high stamina. Gattuso has all these skills and no one can be compared to him bar Essien.

By the way mark, Vieria is a centre midfielder and this is a different issue.
