Anyways, this is a pretty interesting stretch for Conte. We have a tough tie against Benfica and we have some serious rotations to make in Serie A. And I honestly don't expect Vidal to play much more in this season.

There are some answers to our lack of CMs. You could play Isla there. You could play Padoin. You could switch to a 2 man midfield and play Giovinco and Isla/Vucinic wide against some small Serie A teams in order to rest Pirlo for Benfica.

You could put Asamoah at CM and Peluso or Isla at LWB.

He still has lots of options but I want to see some creativity to get us through these tough times.
This. This is what we should be discussing. Not all the vitriol against the team we all supposedly love. Cheers to you for bringing something relevant and interesting to discuss into this thread.

I'd like to see Asa get some rest from the intensity required at WB and perhaps some time in midfield in Serie A. We have a few minnows coming up which would be a perfect time to rest midfield starters and play Padoin, Isla, Asamoah there. Is Peluso still out, or has he recovered? If we could start Peluso at LWB in at least 2 or 3 of our remaining Serie A fixtures and allow Asa rest or a less energy sapping role in midfield, that would be swell.

Marchisio seems fairly fresh, so I think he could play quite a bit over the next stretch of matches. Basically every match. We also have a couple youngsters that we could theoretically call up in league once the scudetto is hopefully clinched in another two rounds. We could easily play a couple primavera midfielders to spell Pirlo and Pogba for the Europa league matches as early as the match after Udinese if we win and Roma drops any points at all.

Does anyone know the status of Barzagli? I'd like to see Ogbonna play in Serie A after this weekend for the rest of the year.

Asamoah as a CM seems inevitable at some stage. He's one of our form players as well, so it might be for the better.
It would save some energy as well, or so I believe. The style we play with our wingback requires an immense amount of running up and down the sides of the pitch from corner flag to corner flag. And a lot of it rather hard running.

That means Peluso plays which is far from ideal. Would honestly prefer padoin cm asa LWB at least the Pads is reliable
In league though? The last four rounds perhaps. The scudetto should be ours by then, and then I'm all for Peluso and resting everyone we can for Benfica.

That is so outrageously hilarious, it's borderline depressing. Remember how obsessed people were with Strama after Inter beat us last year and were challenging for top spot in Serie A around December... Some people even suggested he was a much better manager than Conte. :sergio: Yeah, look at how that turned out.

Peluso is ok if you aren't trying to force the play, his only real weapon as an attacker is his determination and crossing. It may be an idea to use him and move Asamoah inside for trickier away games where we are not forcing the play. We would look weaker on paper but it may allow us to dominate CM with Asamoah-Pirlo-Pogba, for example (assuming Vidal is injured), that's a better transition midfield than with Marchisio in there. Benfica away is the game I had in mind.

If there's nothing at stake that's fine but no matter who we play, he's just a huge downgrade and tbh in the Summer we need a much better Left side cover option
For me Peluso is really a left back, he's not quite switched on enough to play central defence, and he doesn't have enough quality for left back. Padoin is much the same, these are just versatile players who play 3 positions without question. And like Padoin he really doesn't give a shit about his opponent when he comes on, he just gets on with it.

Ideally we'd have players coming through our ranks who could do the 'sub-sub' role, but often it comes from experienced players. We only have to look through our squads over history to see that. Young players are to be improved, not given a part time role.

He's another option for a 'defensive' set up, he'd most probably act as a wide covering player to allow Asamoah more room to attack from inside.
I'd maybe be willing to play Marchisio instead of Pirlo there too, to allow both Asamoah and Pogba move forward without leaving a big hole behind them.
