Conte is World Coach of the Year

By Football Italia staff

Juventus boss Antonio Conte has been named Coach of the Year at the Dubai Globe Soccer Awards.

The Italian beat Rafa Benitez of Napoli and Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp to the title at the eighth Dubai International Sports Conference.

“This honour fills me with pride and I above all thank my players for helping me achieve this award,” declared Conte. “If I won this trophy then the credit is to be split with my lads, without doubt.

“Will I get the FIFA Coach of the Year award? There’s a very long way to go, as you need to win international trophies, for example as Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho did.

“Therefore let’s roll up our sleeves and in 2014 take the Europa League, whose Final will be played at the Juventus Stadium. Then, next season, we resume our march on the Champions League.

“The elimination in Istanbul still stings, but we couldn’t really play football that day against Galatasaray. This term we want to win it all, a third Scudetto in a row and the Coppa Italia too. It’d be a record, as we could be the first side to win 10 editions of the Coppa.”

Conte was at the Dubai event with Russia manager Fabio Capello and Bayern Munich Coach Guardiola.

“I am around two years older than Guardiola, but he was a reference point for me in the style of football he gave to Barcelona. I studied the tactical evolution and new style of Pep’s football, as he was an innovator.

“I was not a very technically gifted player, so I always based my career on hard work and sacrifice, often talking to my Coaches to understand what they wanted,” explained Conte.

“I worked with the most winning tacticians, apart from Capello. This helped me in my career.

“The secret to creating a winning group is to have a strong club behind you and quality players, then of course an idea of football for them to work on.”

I like that too.

I love how some football fans devalue most other titles than the ultimate ones. It's just the EL, it's just the Serie-A, it's just Ligue 1, it's just the Globe Soccer World Coach of the Year award... As if you get them by just snapping your fingers.

In those persons' eyes, you haven't achieved shit if you don't win either the EPL, the CL or one of FIFA's personal awards (players / coaches).

JuveSardu being the worst of this despicable bunch.

I nakedly protest against this behavior

Im excited about Conte wanting to win the EL. I was expecting it obviously, but is nice to hear it from him. The same with the Coppa Italia.

Rhe ony thing that worries me about the Coppa Italia...... is that it will be difficult for us to win because while we will use that coppa to give a chance to our bench players.... other teams will go full force against us because of the lack of other commitments. If things get rought in coppa, i would like Conte to field his stronger 11 against the better teams because im pretty sure they will be merciless with their starting 11

conte is the type of coach (and person) who is a winner. wanting to win every trophy is in his nature. who knows when he will get the chance to win the EL again so i believe he will field at least 5-6 starters every EL game...

I attended Conte's conference, as well as the private press conference.

Unfortunately security was real tight so I couldn't take a picture with him together.. I brushed shoulders with him as he walked out. Lol

Anyway, I'm not so bummed out. (as I did get to meet and get Conte's autograph on my jersey in 2011, and take a photo with him.)

He seemed tired by the way. I doubt he will stay on in Dubai, as Juve resume training tomorrow.

Today in Dubai Juventus boss Conte received the award as Coach of the Year and Buffon agreed with the vote.
“The credit our Coach deserves for these last two and a half years is incredible and we can’t really know how much of it was down to him and how much to us players.
“He was fantastic at helping to motivate us, poke us and give us a precise football identity. In terms of individuals, there have been stronger Juve sides, but this is certainly the one with the best team spirit and that way the overall level of football is raised.”

Sending messages to the board. I need money to spend, I don't think the board will give him it. He's right though, no team wins the CL on a shoestring budget.
