Whether it's Conte or anybody else, what I hope the new coach does is address the incongruence between work ethic and aspirations. We cannot set Scudetto ambitions when we have a mid-table team putting mid-table effort. Because what tends to happen in those circumstances is that once the ambition is dealt severe blows (in our case usually around January), the team goes into free-fall. The ambition to win the Scudetto must be met with the required hard work on and off the pitch. Unfortunately, the Mottas of this team think that they can dream of Scudetto just by wearing black and white, rather than by working their asses off to improve, and give all to the team.
Absolutely.
Then again, can you guys imagine how big the problem is and how much in this team is rotten, from top to bottom, when guys who give minimum effort (like Motta) are always getting to play and we never see strong reaction from our coach and management about the lack of effort shown?
Some empty words here and there (like Agnelli after this last round) but nothing concrete. One could get the impression that our guys are working brilliantly in trainings because they're never punished for lack of effort and workrate. Mourinho is punishing his players left and right if they fail to do everything he tells them to do in training or during official matches, but not our guys. Our guys are working their asses off and deserve to start every single match aas a reward for their effort.
And why would the players bother that much at all? When they don't feel a strong hand, when they see that both the coach and the directors are giving them a free pass despite the pathetic performances and lack of running, why should they bother to work harder than it's required of them?
That goes for every field in life.
