Andrea Barzagli has a calf problem, but Juventus medics assure scans “ruled out muscular tears.”

The defender had been out of action for eight months with an Achilles tendon problem, but has been playing regularly in recent weeks.

He pulled out during the warm-up ahead of the 3-0 Coppa Italia semi-final victory over Fiorentina last night.

There were reports on Sky Sport Italia and Sport Mediaset that they feared a calf strain, which would keep him sidelined for a month.

However, the medical report released this evening spoke only of “an overloaded soleus muscle” with no muscular tears.

“His condition will continue to be monitored, but he is a doubt for Saturday’s fixture against Parma.”

The real issue will be getting Barzagli fit in time for Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final with Monaco.
