Ended up getting the Desire yesterday, and I must say it's freakin sweet.

Apart from the battery life and the fact that my phone keeps telling me I have no friends (Facebook contact sync isn't working for some reason), I have no complaints.

Any pro tips from long-time Android users?

You need to clean up your home screens by removing all the pre-loaded widgets. Just delete them so they don't eat up your memory and battery. It will make a big difference in your phones performance.

Certain apps are a must, Advanced task killer, handcent or the stock messaging app will suffice. There are many other apps but I haven't used an android device since late May so there may be some new kick ass apps that released.

Wait till the usual gang gets here. You'll get plenty of tips.

So this one's technically a cellphone, but its more a tablet. Anyways, its Android and it'll fit here.

Made in India bitches :weee:
Good stuff

android tablets are the next step until netbooks, notebooks and then ultimately pc's all stage android as an OS.

Google + future = GREAT SUCCESS

But aren't Google marketing the Chrome OS as the OS for netbooks? I am not sure how they are going to make both co-exist. I think they are going to have android for mobile, tablets and other electronics like TV and set top boxes. Chrome might grow into the OS for notebooks and desktops...

Welcome to the club, Graham!

@you others: Are you people nuts? You would rather have a cellphone OS on your computer than an actual OS? Android is well done and all, but there's no way I would replace Gentoo/Ubuntu with it.

The idea of having a lightweight OS is actually great. Especially for people who hardly do anything other than browse the net and listen to some music. It might not be good enough for anything else, but a lot of computer users do belong to the casual user category these days...

Hey Martin, I am thinking of doing the Gentoo plunge a new attempt.

It's going to be on my old laptop if I am to install it.
Why don't you try Arch? That's one distro I'm eager to try out as soon as I get a back-up PC or laptop. It requires the same amount of effort as Gentoo :p and there are excellent instructions on their wiki.

Ok, I will give it a try. The thing is, I have a laptop with the sole purpose of testing distros, so there is no harm in trying things.

You do that, it seems awesome. And I want that kind of laptop.

Problem is whenever we buy some new laptop, the old one goes to someone else. First it was my niece for school(OK I can live with that) and now my aunt in Bosnia(fucking free skype calls). I have a feeling one of my grandparents will be next in line. :(
