Nice. I once tried Darky's ROM for the Desire some time ago, and it was pretty good.
Bought my Desire last week, its an amazing phone :D
Indeed. My only gripe with the phone is the low internal memory which fills up fast if you install a lot of apps. Other than that, it's a great phone.

As I said above I am new to Android, got some questions about apps. there are a lot of them and I'm kind of confused ! For these functions below what are the best free apps, anyone can help me please ?

- About sms : to backup sms, with ability of restoring them. I like the simplicity of original sms app, so I think I don't want other alternative sms applications. also is there a possibilty to put pass/lock on the original sms application ?

- Lost phone: there are some apps that will locate your lost phone with GPS, and also wipe & lock your phone in case of robbery. which one is the best ?

- There are some apps that keep running even though I keep closing them, like Yahoo mail application. I want it, but I don't want it all the time, is there something there... something like for example Windows msconfig's startup tool for this ? Not task killers, I keep killing them but somehow they manage to survive :D

- And by the way, can I add Unicode encoding to sms app and web browser ?

1) While the stock SMS app is nice n all, you HAVE to get Handcent SMS. You can lock it using a PIN or a pattern lock. Also, the stock app has a bug where it sorts the conversation incorrectly based on the time. This bug is not present on Handcent. So close your eyes and choose Handcent. Oh, and look for 'SMS Backup & Restore' by Ritesh Sahu. You can schedule the app to backup everyday and save it to your SD card. The same author has other apps to backup call logs, APN's and other things.

2) Check out McAfee Wavesecure or 'Lookout Mobile Security'. Former is a 14-day trial with paid subscription. Lookout is free.

3) There is no effective way of stopping apps from running indefinitely. But remember that Android is not like Windows. Android does a good job at managing all running apps in such a way that it doesn't affect performance. So if you got mail apps or other apps that usually keep a connection with their server, then ignore them. If you still want an app for that, search for 'Startup Cleaner'.

4) Not sure if that is possible without root.

Thanks Sheik.

OK, Im gonna try Handcent and see if I like it :D
You bet. Make sure you disable the 'Received Notifications' in the stock SMS app. Or else, you'll have 2 notifications when you receive an SMS. :D

Oh, and get eBuddy for chatting on Facebook\Google Talk\Yahoo and also get WhatsApp. It's an app that lets you send texts over your mobile internet rather than traditional texting.
