There's not much of a difference, except that it might be slightly faster. So far so good. Except for the fact that today morning I woke up to find all my messages missing again. Thankfully I keep a backup these days.

A no-wipe flash is never recommended even for an update for the same rom. Chances are a lot of bugs and lag could unexpectedly come your way.
Incorrect. Recoveries was designed specifically for the purpose of installing an update without wiping the phone again. If not, the idea of an "update" is lost.

Plus, I just installed the update this morning the same way and it runs just fine.

How so? You mean an update has to be a no-wipe one otherwise it's not called an actual update? :wth:

Official updates usually comes with two versions and almost always you'll the wipe version listed as recommended, there's no way you can upgrade the firmware on any device without triggering other apps and files' response, which sometimes turn messy. Im not saying it would always work that way, I simply noted it as a recommended way to flash.

Oh and Sheik, no competition here buddy. Trying to help that's all.

Read the section under 'Instructions' in this thread. Especially the 2nd part where the scenario is where you're already using another CM version. Note that the first set of steps involves those who're installing CM7 for the first time.

I don't know how long you've been into flashing ROMs, but I've been doing it extensively for the past year. I've flashed ROMs like a maniac. I know how these things work. There's always a potential for a screwup during updates, but as long as you follow the instructions and pay attention to detail, everything will be fine. I don't think updating this way has ever gone wrong for me.

Nooooooooooooooo :sergio: I was already running a 2.3 ROM, and the developer released an updated version of the same ROM with some bug fixes, which I flashed without wiping, which is OK.
Right. Your last post confused me, when you said you've been doing this for a year or whatever I thought you meant no-wipe flashes not flashing in general. There used to be a no wipe versions for 2.2 roms btw, but they always had the warnings I talked about but later on they stopped doing them because they realized how buggy they were.

This is probably a 2.3.3 thing with no-wipe. Im yet to flash any of those.

No it's not. I've been flashing 1.6 through 2.3, and this rule applies when the ROM you're using and the update you're installing are by the same developer for the same ROM. If the ROM is different, then a wipe is mandatory.

Oh btw, I actually saw an exception to this. There are a few ROMs out there that implement DATA2SD and DATA++, and I saw one there where the dev said a wipe is necessary even if you're installing an update. But this is just one ROM, and an exception.

I've flashed 7-9 different roms and none of which recommended a no wipe flash. Hell few even had that option and they still bashed it out.

Weird.

No dev would recommend a no-wipe flash because it's always safer to wipe, but I've flashed about 15 different phones, and can testify that updating the same rom from the same dev without a wipe is generally safe.
