We never should have appointed a complete rookie with zero experience obviously. Pirlo was in way over his head. But the season was roughly comparable to last. 5 less points, more goals scored, less goals conceded, significantly better goal differential, same exit in CL, won two cup finals that we lost last year.

The biggest difference is that Pirlo didn’t figure out how to manage matches against the minnow clubs or we would have finished with more points than last year.

But Pirlo’s very first year as a coach being roughly equivalent to Sarri’s 30th year as a coach speaks volumes as to how utterly mediocre Sarri is, and how disastrous an appointment he was as our coach. Disgraceful decision from management to replace a legend like Max with that bum.
That Sarri is the absolute best Serie A coach in the world, other than Conte. Pirlo never stood a chance

He’s no coach material. Better aim for a director position.
This. He has zero clue..his confidence and self belief from his playing days fueled his venture in his wrong approach as a coach and will continue to do so.
From the first days when he came in and tried that retarded hybrid garbage right away it already raised red flags..Max came and built his own system after Conte, but implemented his ideas slowly to an already organized and stable team..
Pirlo coming in after sarri, a team in shambles, wanted to implement his own from the start, and not only implement playing style but to alternate the team form between systems during play.. it's instinct and Pirlo has none as coach or at least not enough for this level..

I mean harsh, but true. But it’s not all his fault either. Hiring someone with zero experience and not even giving him the roster he wanted was setting him up to fail. Both Tici and Pirlo needed the axe.
Roster he wanted? Man had no fucking clue how to put together a simple system and has to revert to some BS hybrid when the players don't know his ideas yet he makes it yet even more complicated?..stop making excuses for this bum, great player one of the all time great playmakers, magical to watch..but let's face it this guy will never make it at this level period.

Sarri secured the scudetto 3-4 (I don't remember exactly) rounds before the end. The two Mickey Mouse cups are irrelevant.
We secured the scudetto after 36 rounds and were in terrible form, I think one or two wins in the last 8 rounds. Before covid Lazio was one point behind us and the break killed all their momentum. Inter wasn't particularly impressive either. If you had this season teams against sarri, he'd have lost the scudetto as well. And those mickey mouse cups should have been won by sarri, or atleast one. We were out of CL and had no Serie A games at the time they were played, and we reached the final of both. It was as bad a season as this, results wise.

glad you settled that. I’m sure you’re qualified to be making judgements on who will or won’t make it.
yeah just as much as your are professor, you're welcome reminder this is not a calculus forum

Nobody needs qualifications to make a prediction. Time will tell who's right. I personally think he's going down the way of Ferrara.
This is a fact based calculus forum don't you know that? :D
Yeah pirlo is never amounting to shit as coach you can mark this post.

2 rounds left actually. We won scudetto after match day 36. We were in awful form at the time. And if we had failed that day there’s no guarantee we would have secured it. In the form we were in I doubt we were taking 6 points from the last two matches.

We had a huge lead anyway. Yes, we were awful at the end but part of the reason was that Sarri had totally lost the dressing room by that time. Anyway, I don't rate Sarri much at all as you know. He's not Juve level but let's not pretend he's not miles better than Pirlo.

Meh. I think he’s a minor improvement on Pirlo. We also performed better in cup comps under Pirlo. But whatever, it’s a moot point. Both sucked here.

One has 30 years experience, the other was a complete rookie who hadn’t coached a single match. That speaks volumes about how mediocre and unsuited to a big club Sarri is, that he took 30 years to become that poor.

It's shocking (but not really) how people are unable to reconcile this

He did take Roma to the CL semis in one of their best campaigns ever in europe. IIRC they went through Chelsea, Atletico, Shaktar, Barca and won the 2nd vs Liverpool

Needs to relaunch his career
Got eliminated on one goal on aggregate, and got some questionable calls against them in the 1st leg. Roma was on fire back then, wish they went to the final
