I honestly have no idea how to feel about this. It seems we're probably sacrificing next season to rebuild, but what does that mean for Ronaldo staying here? Surely, he didn't sign up for this. What about the other players? The Pirlo appointment does have the potential to pan out magnificently, or it could completely backfire. At this point in time, it's looking like the latter.

What's his coaching philosophy? Does he even have one? What kind of players is he likely to demand, and what type of players will he actually get? So many variables and uncertainties. Could he just be a stop gap appointment until another coach is available in the summer of 2021?

Just sit back and relax with some wine and jazz music in the background. Exactly how Pirlo wants it.

I made myself a relaxing bath, finished a nice and interesting book, ended a bottle of whiskey, smoked a joint and finally made a decision.

I like it, I join the "team Pirlo" club! Every single one of us should agree that it's a risk and it's a gamble, I see most of the people here think it's a mistake, they have reasonable concerns and basic logic suggests that it's more likely that they would eventually be proven right...

But... It's Pirlo we're talking about ffs, of all the high profile players in last decade or so he is one of the most obvious choices and best sure bets to (eventually) make a great manager, his everything screams football of the highest possible level, his intelligence is unmatched, he is a global star, he has the respect of pretty much everyone in this sport, etc etc...

So he never coached a team before, ideally he could have made his first steps in the lower divisions before taking on a huge team, that's what a random ex-player newbie coach would do, yet he's not exactly a random ex-player. If Andrea and Andrea agree on the vision, the plan, the project and everything that goes with it, then I'm okay, let's see how it goes, I am excited to see how this risk and gamble would turn out. And I am more than willing to bet on an inexperienced legend of the game and this club than a vastly experienced lowlife loser with nothing remarkable to his name.

I like this move also because it's a move made by the President himself, who already has a record and history of understanding football better than the one that oversees and operates the football stuffs at the club and the other one that is a club legend and a golden ball winner.

Pirlo is indeed a gamble. The one thing we know he has over Sarri is that he's a better fit for the club. Agnelli seems to think Pirlo will be like Zidane at Real Madrid, but I remember a similar gamble being taken on Ciro Ferrara a decade ago, and that didn't work out, albeit it was a very different club then.

I doubt the plan was to win the CL with Ronaldo in his third year here, when he's 36. It was supposed to happen in the first two seasons. It didn't.
Now we're in position when our old guard is before retirement and way past it (Chiellini, Buffon), on a very serious downfall (Bonucci, Higuain, Matuidi, Khedira... Cuadrado is 32) and those who should be having their best years are always injured (Ramsey, D. Costa) or have proven themselves to be complete failures (Bernardeschi, Rugani)
In order to make a new great team that will fight for CL right away (with Ronaldo staying here), we need to buy a loooot of top quality and proven players. Noone has money for that.
Our only remaining option is to use the next 2 summers to create a new top team. We had great luck to be playing in terrible serie A in 2015/16 and still win that scudetto, despite the transition. This time I am not sure we'll be so lucky.

It's wishful thinking that with Ronaldo here we must fight for next year's CL. We don't have the team for that, nor money. His usefulness, I'm afraid, will be reduced to his experience and the privilege our new guys will have to learn from him.

Congrats to him for getting this appointment. I hope he manages to transfer some of that ingenuity which he displayed week in week out as a player, to current group. At this point I dont know what to expect tbh but legend or no legend objectives remain the same; Serie a title and deep CL run. Good luck.

This appointment reminds me of The Lakers appointing Magic back in the 94. Needless to say, he only lasted 16 games, of which they lost 11. It could get annoying and frustrating for Pirlo, but at least this team isn't as bad as The Lakers team Magic inherited (nor is it as bad as the Ferrar led Juve), and there should be some room to maneuver. I really do hope he does bring about a change in attitude and mentality. Agnelli also needs to support him and provide the man with a couple of quality pieces to ensure he can translate his vision onto the field of play.

We aren't going to just throw away a season. There's no need for that. Squad has obvious glaring weaknesses, but they tend to be exaggerated after a bad loss. Squad may not be 100% completed this mercato, but we'll competitive with the same objectives.

Actually agree with this. We still have, by far, the best team in Serie A and will rightly start the season as favourites due to that. We do need a few new additions and for some old players to be shown the door.

I mean watching a rookie like Lampard getting mauled by a well oiled unit gives me nightmares when Juve go toe to toe with the biggest teams next season

Hope everything goes well but I don't have much expectations if not at all going into next season. Just hoping we dont slide down even further incase we have a bad season.
