let's not make Xavi sound like a Gattuso or Essien, shall we 
- Barca's best defense is not Zavi's tackling skills but their ball possession ability as a team altogether.
Pirlo isn't too shabby in doing defensive work himself but neither of them is and should be famed for their defense.
They are both great players, who, as someone said, worked great for two different systems - it is useless to compare two different players, in general.

Xavi is the definition of smooth and silky.
That's true.
not claiming he is yet to see his best years but Pirlo's football is the type that doesn't require much physical effort and agility to begin with so his value to Juve will not be diminished as much by the fact that he is 32 yo old now.
besides that, hardly anyone here sees him as a long-term solution to Juve's midfield issues ... still, you guys will be able to enjoy a player of his quality and if the management somehow outdoes themselves and surround him with a decent group of players, you will witness a Juve that is a joy to watch.
No worries regarding if Pirlo can still cut it, my concerns would all be if Marotta and his team can.

You can't just say it's useless to compare two players. That's nonsense.
It's useless to compare two very different players. Say, Pazzini and Krasic.
It's perfectly valid to compare two similar players though. Like Pirlo and Xavi or Inzaghi and Trezeguet.
