Good buy by Marotta, Pirlo for free is something you can't miss out on. And he is less than a year older than Xavi, so I don't think age will be an issue, atleast not for the first 2 years.

If we buy Pastore we could really become a team that would be nice to watch.

He forgot Prince, easily the most hateable Milan player.
No-one gets close to Gattuso.
true, not the most lovable players but I am sure you'd be signing their name if they were playing for Juve, kind of like MvB - hate him when he plays against you, love him when he plays for you.

Plus, it's not like you guys didn't have your Monteros and Nedveds and Davids and Zidanes and Melos, so what's with lessons on quality and angelic behavior and whatnot - short memory syndrome or what? ;)

None of those Juve players did anything as despicable as playing for Rangers.

We signed Cannavaro when he was 31-32 after having two bad seasons with Inter and it turned out to be a great move. Pirlo is not going to solve all our midfield problems but I don't understand why we should be against this transfer. He is a player who can actually pass the ball, someone we'd been lacking since God knows when. It's a good deal anyway you are looking at it.

It is a good acquisition but he is still an aging player and we aren't addressing our long term needs in the middle

If it's really a 3-year deal, which seems pretty certain, that's the downside.

I agree, we should not forget that. Furthermore, it's not like Pirlo is some average player, he is probably the best passer of the 2000 decade with Xavi.

Who would you suggest instead? What if we address our short term needs in the midfield by deploying Pirlo in the middle, spending our money on the positions we are terribly bad at (fullbacks) and then, after building a team who can compete for a decent place in the league, going for someone younger to replace Pirlo with?

considering Milan didn't renew his contract, you probably don't wanna know :D

relax, sit back and enjoy Pirlo setting the ball across 3/4 of a field on a stationary Del Piero's right foot :D
I know he'll provide such.

I just hate the fact that we're relying on 32yo Pirlo to solve our regista problem since 2006. Just another short term solution. Even if he's capable of playing 2 more years at high level, it's not much really. Then we have to go through all of this again.

I don't disagree with that, its just a stretch to think that we will address our severe needs at FB which have been ignored since 2007.

If it wasn't a 3 year deal we weren't gonna sign him at all.
Pirlo is the best player we signed after Calciopoli. One of the rare good transfers we made. I know there are cons too and I know we're very sensitive lately, but this is a good transfer.
