I know Ole and United are doing well atm but this is after a couple of seasons of mediocrity and humiliation. A club like United can afford that. They have been mediocre on the pitch for years but have still continued to remain 'relevant' because of their financial might. A few shit seasons isnt going to affect them financially.

Juventus have largely depended on sporting results to remain relevant. Can Juventus afford a couple of seasons of irrelevance and mediocrity and allow enough time for the Pirlo project to flourish? Not to mention there'll probably be budget constraints going forward which makes this matter more complex.

It would be a massive and potentially catastrophic call to retain Pirlo if the poor performances continue.

We can afford down seasons, no doubt about that. What we cannot afford is to miss out on the CL. There is too much money there that is particularly important in covid time. If we don't win Serie A for 2 seasons for example, but stay in the CL doing decently, the club is fine. PSG, Bayern are fine not winning their leagues at times (leaving out english and spanish giants).

Juve doesn't need to win every scudetto in a row to stay competitive, its obvious this cycle will come to an end. What we need is to stay in the european elite, playing and doing well in CL.

If Pirlo takes us lower than 4th he 100% should be sacked and it will be a big blow. Probably sacked before this point if things are really looking like not qualifying for CL is likely. It would be unacceptable. Otherwise, if he shows signs of improvement and the dressing room backs him, I expect him to be kept even if we finish 2nd or 3rd. The management surely did not appoint Pirlo for immediate results but for hopes of a longer project, things just cannot dip too much more.

Pirlo will get kudos from coaches like Sacchi, Zeman and the others who value style over substance, but most of them are losers. What they call bravery I call stupidity, because you can't see something is failing and blindly stick to your guns.

There is also no guarantee that he's ever going to be a top coach. You could give any rookie our squad and win some games, draw some games, lose badly in some games. Does anybody see an improvement? I don't. In fact I see a scenario where if we go a goal down we're almost certain to not win the game, but if we go a goal up we become quite a dangerous team as others have to leave gaps. Sorry but we have to be a lot more flexible and tougher than that.

The more and more I think about this the more I feel it's a mistake.

One of my all time favorite players but come on Pirlo doesn't even know what kind of coach he's going to be and will literally learn game by game.

Is he brought in to be a yes man?

Absolutely. No doubt in my mind at all that he will have no say in transfers and will have to play the hand he is dealt and he has no experience at all of doing that.

How does the fans react if we start the season poorly with like 3 wins from opening 10 games?

Do we give him time?

Ferarra talked a good game and promised attacking football but was accused of having an approach of being more of a friend of the players than an authority figure.

Will Pirlo be the same?

We have literally seen world class coaches outsmart each other in big games as if they are playing chess so what makes us think the likes of Conte won't eat Pirlo up with experience alone?

The way he had set us up for this game was rookie level at it's best, i know we weren't in some amazing moment of form anyway but still even we didn't see this one coming, quite shocking how unbalanced we looked, despite all the absentees we still should and could have done better, perhaps by starting with fielding the best possible XI based on the players available atm instead of moulding everyone into one (yet unproven) preferred formation...

I don’t expect him to be a big motivator like someone who is screaming at the side line, but that doesn’t matter as some good coaches like Ancelotti and Zidane are quite calm.

Yet I don’t understand his way of thinking. Seems to be very stubborn and so far has made little tactical differences during his spell. Can’t believe how he approached the game yesterday and afterwards did his usual talk that we missed aggressiveness, concentration etc.

The biggest problems are really his tactical decisions. Choosing to play Ramsey between the lines and leave our left side exposed again vs Barella and Hakimi is awful. And besides that Rabiot who basically played as a RM, leaving so much space in the center of the pitch killed us. I can’t understand that a ex-midfielder ignores the midfield. I want to blame our players but it’s up to him. Decisions have been horrible.

We need some rescue tactic as we had in 2017 but I’m doubting that Pirlo is able to find good solutions.

Exactly. How that hell he didn't see how weak that left flank was with CR7-Rambo-Frabotta considering Merda only use that flank to attack. Then Pirlo decided to man mark Lukaku with Chiello cuz he knows how bad Bonbon is in that and Lukaku just started to go to the our right or deep so the space on the left was even wider

Exactly my main concern and why I have no faith in him.

If we at least had a decent shape and were struggling I'd be less worried. But we have been so ridiculously open all season and shown no signs of improvement whatsoever. I'm not sure whether Pirlo doesn't see it as an issue or just not clever enough to fix it.

Plenty of top players have failed as managers. I would never have thought Pirlo would be a good manager in his playing days but was happy to give him the benefit of doubt.

However, what has he shown to deserve time to turn it around? No improvement, no track record as a manager, no guarantee he will ever be a good manager.
