just limit his starts..time to leave marchisio in that role

this isnt cricket..certain players for test matches and certain players for one day internationals

get the team playing and ticking with the best possible team...that doesnt include pirlo

only people on here with sentimental value attached or still hung up on the idea of pirlo

we watch the team week in week out and im sure we can agree that there isnt any wow factor to him playing

Is it me or Pirlo plays in a somehow different role nowadays?

From what I've noticed it looks like we've dropped Pirlo way behind, sometimes it even looks like he's a part of our defense. I noticed we're doing less fuck ups seeing him there, but man, so much space is left open in the midfield. Most of the time it was only Pogba and Vidal covering the space, although I've seen Caceres there a couple of times but a bit wider. I'm not liking it personally as we're exposing way too much. Not just that but we're restricting Vidal and Pogba way more than before imo. We do get a lot when Pirlo plays but I'm afraid we lose even more when he's playing. It's kinda sad that our by far strongest weapon, midfield, is getting restricted so much because of him. Having Pirlo on the pitch is not really a disaster but it's going to be horrible if we have him as a starter for the next season as well. We must go with Pogba - Marchisio - Vidal and with a proper AM behind our strikers. Sure, Pirlo has wonderful passes and makes some great assists, sure he has great FKs. But I feel like we're 1/3 weaker with Pirlo being there. Not to mention Europe and higher pace games. I think it's gonna be a suicide if we field Pirlo against Dortmund.

I have already said that like five or six times.

I stopped reading Live thread. Sometimes I just shout 'goal' lol.

But that's not even the point. I was just asking what people think about it because I personally see one big hole in midfield.

Pirlo is playing as a pivot with him dropping back into the defensive line during the build up phase and CB's making lateral movements. The full backs push up to join the midfield.

The idea is not to move the ball quicker but to retain possession and invite pressure from the opponents which then opens up space and therefor gaps can be exploited by vertical passes or lateral passes.

Pep has been using this method with barca (busquets) and now does it with bayern. Ancelloti used xabi in his 4-3-3 last year. Rodgers plays gerard as a pivot in some games.

I'd bench Pirlo. Our ideal and best midfield imo is Pogba - Marchisio - Vidal.

But I also know we're not gonna do that for sure.
You think we will have him next year too?

I wouldn't be surprised if it were the case.

What surprises me is clinging to these legends. I mean giving them too much rep when they lost a lot of their abilities. I know it would be hard for someone like Pirlo to stay in the team where he would be a sub and role player, but this would be a natural thing imo.

I believe we're gonna give him less minutes. But yeah, I actually think he's gonna be our starter for majority of the games.

I wouldn't bench pirlo, at least not until we are able to sign a trequartista:

- plays between the lines which will allow tevez to be closer to goal and it would also help llorente who gets isolated currently.

- is able to beat his man to create numerical advantange , creativity in the final 3rd and also has some goals in him

Marchisio in the middle allows us to play with a higher line and quicker but that rarely translates into attacking opportunities because apart from pogba and tevez none of our players can go past their markers in tight spaces.

So if a team sits deep we get easily neutralized
