"He is finished. I hope they arent renewing his contract" said galliani before releasing pirlo
He was nearing 32 at the time. He's going to be 35 in a few months.

His best season for us was by far his first one, he has been steadily declining ever since. He was a fantastic signing for us and has been the main artisan of our comeback since 2011-12 but we have to look forward to playing without him from next season onward if we want to improve in Europe.

I don't want to read any comments about Pirlo being in decline..his age doesn't really affect the way he plays, he doesn't rely on speed (which declines with age), but mostly on his vision, passing etc.

We should keep him at least for another year. He has CL experience and is still a big asset to the team whether he's a starter or a sub. a 35 year old Pirlo is better than Marchisio..any day of the week

If we want to improve in Europe we need to get a striker that's not a cl flop lead our line, and to stop having pussy mentality every game

If Pirlo was still playing like in 2011-12, I'd definitely agree with you.

He has definitely slowed down, even if his play has never relied on speed. Also, the argument is that playing with a regista is nowadays easily countered by the top European teams.

Pirlo doesn't rely on speed only when he has the ball at his feet. In every facet of the game he relies on speed just like every other player.

His decline in speed hurts his ability to get the ball whether through joining the play up the field with a sprint, shedding a marker with a sprint, recovering a loose ball with a sprint or sprinting back to stop a counter and recover a ball.

This is just a remark about speed in general and the game of football nowadays. I cringe when people say speed doesn't matter to slow players and it's ok if their speed declines even further. Of course it still matters or else grandparents could still be footballers.

Pirlo is not necessarily finished, but 4m per year if that's what he's asking for is ridiculous. If he wants to stay he'll need to accept rotation role and salary that would reflect that status. But, I'd prefer if we'd close this chapter and move forward.
