am I the only one who thinks that Pirlo is experienced and clever enough to rest and/or distribute his energy appropriately during the games.

Ita actually important for him to have played IMO. Had he rested, Chelsea's pace may have affected him a little more, than it will now, when his body has gotten a good workout. If Marchisio and Vidal show up I think Pirlo will do ok. What bothers me is, that now at Asa is gonna e used out left, we got nothing for mid depth. Not his level anyway. Getting that LwB was important this season to be honest.

From Carrera's press conference before the Genoa game:

“Will Andrea Pirlo be rested? He is a champion and knows how to deal with his energy levels.”

To me it looked like he was walking against Genoa. Even with the ball he was walking. If we see him put in a great performance vs. Chelsea then we will know he was resting vs. Genoa. If we see a poor performance we'll know he's tired. And hopefully the coaching staff will recognize it as well.

He is always walking, he is so good so he doesn't need to run

this sounds bs to me. He was so demanded during Euros. He has been way below his level recently. And I feel it's because he needs to rest.
Yeah, I'm not entirely convinced by what Carrera said.

No doubt Pirlo can still make a worthwhile contribution when soldiering on playing at about 60%, but the question is then whether he will have the energy to step up a level or two when it is required.

The first game or two when Juve rest Pirlo this season will certainly be interesting and will be very important as to how things are going to pan out through the season.

Pirlo should probably be rested against Chievo this weekend.

ha. I know what you mean but against Genoa he was sedentary.

In the CL, you need everyone at 100%. I've seen Pirlo sprinting back on occasion to break up counter-attacks. That type of stuff is vital. If he can't do that vs. Chelsea then, who knows, it could lead to a loss.

I know Pirlo is Pirlo and he gets away with walking about the pitch but we have to also realize he is playing infront of the defence and when we don't have the ball he is defending. If he is too tired to do that then it hurts us alot. Chelsea has the quality of players we haven't seen in a LONG time.

It might only take 1 or 2 counters and we end up with a loss. The likes of Hazard and Mata MUST be closed down on the break. Primarily you would say that is the deep lying midfielder's job.

Unless Conte has rested up Vidal thoroughly so he can run 27km on Wednesday..

The survivalist adventures of bearded Andrea Pirlo

In the summer of 2012, sometime between Italy's 4-0 loss to Spain in the final of the European Championship and the start of Juventus' preseason friendlies, Andrea Pirlo retreated from the putrid society of man. He rose above the murders and deceit, the wars and corruption. He sacrificed all of his worldly possessions and took up residence in a fortified bunker high up in the Alps with just his axe, his wits and his beard for comfort. These are the adventures of Bearded Pirlo.

Bearded Pirlo only comes down from the pure air and angst powered espresso machines of his mountain home and into the pollution and decay of the modern world to grace us with the beauty of his football. And sometimes to stare at people who haphazardly park their cars until they eventually develop a sense of shame and refuse to talk on the telephone ever again.

For exactly one hour every night he weeps for all those who suffer under the rule of greed and stupidity. Then he collects his tears in a jar and places it on a shelf carved from stone with the others. On the day that there is no more room for tear jars on the shelf, Bearded Pirlo will hold out his index finger and unflinchingly point it at everyone who has contributed to the general horror of the world. Even babies.

But for now, Bearded Pirlo is biding his time. Winning football matches and eating the corks off old wine bottles fuels his ever-growing desire. He bounces ideas for revolution off his most trusted ally, a goat known as Davide, and uses his sponsor-issued Jeep Grand Cherokee as an outhouse. When he sleeps, he dreams only of revenge for crimes that have not yet been committed. And Davide trying to use a knife and fork with his front hooves.

At the moment, his true nemesis remains unclear. This is the only thing keeping us from the inevitable wrath of Bearded Pirlo.

That is great.
