That's not what I'm saying. Show me some research that supports your talent claim?
The truth is that the very best, in a certain area, became the best through hard work - they did not have an (inner) advantage. Have you heard about Da Vinci's nephew?

The same have been said about about creativity, but it has pretty much been shot downed.

I guess this is the never ending discussion about heredity and environnemnt :)

I have, and his talent can be attributed to heredity, but no doubt it was a talent. What am I advocating here, two chief points:

1) You're born with certain abilities and talents, but people are very different in this matter. There are more talented and less talented individuals (ordinary and extraordinary), but then again talent without work is not enough, in sports most notably, as we've seen numerous examples of athletes, who despite of possessing all the talent in the world failed to leave their mark.

2) Those who have affinity for some artistic expression will spend less time in practice and get far better results because of their predetermined abilities. Whether those individuals fulfill potential depends on the choices they make in certain periods of their life, but you can't become more talented. One needs only a few lessons to create his composition, while some other can spend his whole life in practice, but all in vain, as he doesn't have the affinity, something that you cannot gain with practice and therefore he's confined to mediocrity despite all the efforts he's putting in.

Creativity isn't really something you learn, you can get better at it by practice but practice doesn't mean you can be as good as the best. You don't see michael angelo batio writing a song like Kashmir or Time...
