Defenders Nominated for World XI 2013:
David Alaba (Austria, FC Bayern München); Jordi Alba (Spain, FC Barcelona); Dani Alves (Brazil, FC Barcelona); Leighton Baines (England, Everton FC); Jérôme Boateng (Germany, FC Bayern München); Ashley Cole (England, Chelsea FC); Dante (Brazil, FC Bayern München); Mats Hummels (Germany, Borussia Dortmund); Branislav Ivanović (Serbia, Chelsea FC); Philipp Lahm (Germany, FC Bayern München); David Luiz (Brazil, Chelsea FC); Vincent Kompany (Belgium, Manchester City FC); Marcelo (Brazil, Real Madrid CF); Pepe (Portugal, Real Madrid CF); Gerard Piqué (Spain, FC Barcelona); Sergio Ramos (Spain, Real Madrid CF ); Thiago Silva (Brazil, Paris St-Germain FC); Raphaël Varane (France, Real Madrid CF); Nemanja Vidić (Serbia, Manchester United FC); Pablo Zabaleta (Argentina, Manchester City FC).

Piqué and Pepe get nominated, Barzagli doesn't.

It's almost hilarious how mind-bogglingly clueless Fifa is.

Well, i believe FIFA doesnt like to be nowhere near Juventus name. Thats because of 2006 scandal i guess. As Fifa = corruption during his entire existence. Just a guess

They don't seem to make a big effort staying away from corruption normally though...

But you might be right, that could be a reason.

What is the criteria for this BS?

2011/12 best defensive record in Europe (Big leagues) Barzagli our best defender

2012/13 2nd/3rd best defensive record in Europe. Again, Barzagli the MVP of the back line

Jordi Alba? Jordi F*cking Alba? He should fkn retire he's a waste of space, FIFA make me sick they really do.

Barzagli needs to start using Pogba´s haircut, then being as loud as Ibrahimovic , appear in an AD owning Messi and Neymar with Fat Cantona smiling in the background and last but not least, banging Scarlet Johanson.

Then and only then, ull see him in the top 3 spots.

Hope that's sarcasm because even Madrid fans I know think he's a joke

He's such a reckless idiot, if he was playing for somebody like Malaga (Which in all honesty he should be) nobody would even look at him twice.

As soon as you step foot in Madrid your rating seems to magically rise.

Ramos is terrible defender. And every single one of those names on the list can only bow his head down on a sole mention of Barzagli's name.

Several of those players are only on the list because of their club's name, I'm sure.

You good folks shouldn't be shocked. Papa Barzagli is letting the little ones have fun. If grown men were allowed in this competition then we all know who would come out as the #1.
