He's been easily the best player this season, if you look at overall performances. Rarely has be had a bad game. Come to think of it, I can't seem to remember him having an average game this season. Has been decent to good to excellent all season.

I know you're just on a high after our recent form, but if he's going to be considered the best, then he also has to play against the best to prove it. At the moment he's arguably the top Serie A defender only.

Recent form? He's been absolutely fantastic all season. And as for the "has to play against the best"-part:

Does Pique and Puyol play against the best all the time? Facing "Sergio Sucky", "Javier Nobody" and "Hugo Tapas" from La Liga?

Yeah, they play in the CL, but we've played the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Lazio and Inter this season, teams that if you look at the players they have at their disposal, some of them are of CL-quality. And Barzagli has absolutely crushed every single attacking player he's been up against, whether it was Zlatan, Robinho, Cavani, Hamsik, Sneijder, Milito (someone who actually decided a CL-final some time back) etc.

It's easy to pull the "we're not in the CL so he can't possibly be judged yet"-card, but just have a look at how he's playing. Incredible.

He had an extremely positive season so far, but it's irrelevant making such statements for now, Jem. Let him keep a low-profile until he'll hit it big next season. ;)

It's not irrelevant when the counter-argument is that he's "not playing against the best". Are players such as Zlatan, Cavani, Hamsik, Sneijder, Milito, Jovetic etc. not "the best"?

Or does he have to face Messi first? Is that it?

Or perhaps the fabulous Fernando Torres? :howler:

You can't look at individual players, you have to look at the team. The best team we've faced this season was Milan and we know they're not that good, especially compared to other teams in Europe. Inter has sucked and Sneijder never even plays for them anymore and when he does, it's out of position.

Napoli are easy to beat if you know how to play them. With most teams, we haven't had to do much defending. Our biggest problem has been breaking down their defense. Once the roles are reversed we'll be able to judge him properly.

i really think he will do even better against the stronger teams. he is just getting his game to the world class level. if people say Silva is the best in the world . Barzagli did better than him this season. and i can say that him and King Kong are the best CB pair in Europe right now.

this guy is Class.

Chiello and Barza will definitely rock shit. If Bonucci keeps the form he's been in lately, we'll have an undefeatable trio.

Who mentioned Piqué or Puyol? The elite competition usually does dictate the better players because of the stronger opposition they face in every game.

And of course it is easy to pull the "we're not in the CL so he can't possibly be judged yet"-card, there are a lot of teams outside Milan and Napoli (Inter really do suck, Sneijder isn't the same at all).
