We should close this thread. Never gonna happen.

Let me tell you how things will turn out.

Come to the end of May, and Juve will finish 1 or 2 points from 4th. Then Marotta will state fate in DN and blame injuries as the main reason why we didn´t qualify for CL.

No way we will try to sign VB - he is non italian, young, plays attractive football and he will demand too much freedom, money and responsibility to buy the players he prefers.

oh common, the quality of the portugese league is far inferior to the Italian.
I wouldn't say far inferior, Portugal has got 3 clubs in the semi-finals of the Europa League whereas Italy had 2 that didn't make it to the group stages and one that got out a round after that.

Doesnt say that much about the general quality of the league, but just to display you that Serie A is piss poor this year.

That's not saying much, at least portugese teams actually play to win & don't get dumped out of european competitions in the first & second rounds of european football like most italian teams.

Ummm. Italy's glass house isn't a place to throw stones these days. Portugal is scoring more European competition cred than Serie A this season, that's for sure. And look at the quality of Serie A...

It's considerably lower, we are talking about the whole league not 3-4 teams. When was the last time any top league team went on a 15 match winning run?

I would say 2003 : Milan, Inter and Juve in the CL.
8 years ago , waaay back then. Right now at this very moment 3 portugese teams are playing the semi's and two of them have reached the final.

when that happen for Italian clubs any time soon :howler:, then people can brag about how "far" superior are the Italian teams compared to other leagues.

That's the EL though.

But I do agree with you that the quality of Italian teams has gone down the crapper. One only needs to look at Inter or Milan this year on the CL to realize that. I don't see it picking up any time soon either.

The EL is a dire competition. Porto are a very good team in it, Villarreal were, the others are not. If three Italian teams reached the EL semi finals I'd really know we were in dire straights.

I bet most couldn't even name 10 teams that play in Portugal without looking at the league table.

Yet we shouldn't undermine the effort these teams have put in. At least they are allowing/granting the Portuguese league some recognition. I wish we had Porto's swagger, heart, and hunger/desire for victory.

No one in their right mind would say the Portuguese league is superior, but the Italian league has been shit of late, and the fact that this current Milan are going to win the Scudetto, and that we are struggling as much as we are, just goes to show how incompetent we are. We are truly a team full of shit right now.

And most (other than serie A fans) can't name more 10 teams in Italy too.

The whole argument that Europa league is an average competition that's why Italians careless about it, is lame really. Didn't our management say at the beginning of the season that our goals are to be among top 3 in the league this season plus trying to win the Europa too ! What about Napoli officials who were bragging about how they are the last Italian team in that competition and that they'll represent Italy well and Booom!! The next thing we know is them out of that competition too.

Serie A clubs right now simply sucks.
