Decent, technical versatile mid who can play every single position in midfield (mezzala, B2B, LW, RW, LM, RM, AM, regista). He's best as a mezzala, B2B is probably his 2nd-best role. Think he's been playing out wide for Valencia lately.
I reckon he'll mainly compete with Khedira. Will also play in some games as an AM in the CL (doubt we're signing a bona fide dedicated AM) and a few in the league when we play 4312. Otherwise, expect 352 as the main formation in Serie A. He'll also act as a regista option while Marchisio is injured.
He's very good tactically and in terms of decision-making. Hardly ever loses the ball and is also a good dribbler. Pretty good speed for a CM and is a decent passer. Stats below don't show it, but he contributes and puts in the work defensively. And he seems to be have a good character, which is very important.

He's not the passing, creative type with great vision. He isn't a playmaker. Mezzala type and good dribbler like I mentioned. Can hold on to the ball in tight spaces (that should suit Serie A). And he's effective on counters with his dribbling, speed, and touch (which would come in handy in the CL).
Passing is just decent...around 80% completion rate. That'll improve a little if he joins us.

I wish A Gomes were better defensively. Both Khedira and he are a bit light in that aspect. It doesn't matter in most games, but it matters against opponents like Bayern. I miss Vidal.
There aren't many midfielders who can play as B2B, AM and regista. Gundogan is City-bound. A past-it Toure alone would be risky even though we could probably get two good years out of him with our training regime. Don't see a perfect option for a good, versatile mid, which is what Marotta and Paratici are seeking.

Yeah, passing isn't bad nor a problem. His pass completion rate is a decent 80% now, would be 85% with us.
He contributes defensively and is good tactically (holds the right positions, makes the right decisions) but doesn't win balls or intercept. If he did, that would've been perfect.
Otherwise, good player with potential whose versatility can also really come in handy.

I don't think the Khedira comparisons are that great. He's like Khedira at 2x speed and way better close ball control.
To be honest, he checks a lot of the same boxes that Pogba checks. Tall, strong, fast, two footed passing, excellent close ball control, can dribble the ball out of the defence on an offensive transition with speed.
I like him way better at CM than AM though.
