Syrian Interior Minister Ghazi Kanaan committed suicide in his office on Wednesday, officials said, three weeks after he was questioned by a U.N. team probing the killing of Lebanon's former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri.

About an hour before Kanaan was believed to have placed a gun in his mouth and pulled the trigger, he called a Lebanese radio station to comment on Syrian-Lebanese ties, ending with the words: "I think this is the last statement I might give."

Shortly before news of Kanaan's death broke, President Bashar al-Assad told CNN Syria was not involved in Hariri's death and that he could never have ordered it. YEAH RIGHT

Asked if Syrian officials would have ordered the killing without his knowledge, he said: "I don't think so. If it happened then it's treason.

"If (Syrians) are implicated they should be punished. International (court) or Syrian, whatever."

U.S. President George W. Bush declined to comment on Kanaan, but said Syria was still far too involved in Lebanon.

Right is the word. Kanaan "shot" himself. well since suicide is illegal, I bet he used wasta to get it done.
I bet it was done Stalin style.

But you have to admit this whole story is confusing. Kanaan himslef was a confusing character. But one thing is for sure, with his death the syrian govt hit two birds with one stone, the hariri assassination and a potential contender to power.

The guy isn't popular right here Jeeks, I doubt many will miss his bloody memories...

Today at morning I accidently passed by his funeral while I was heading to my work, I felt weried why they kept his dead body in hospital till the early hours of today...

Till now it is a lil bit calm but we all know that it cann't last like this for too long, above all we have earned another mysterious story and Million of Millions of smart conclusions...

I don't know about contender to power, I know for sure that Alawis will not stay in power the way they are. There is lots of troubled water running underneath, things will change.

I don't think he would have been in the American plans. Probably they would name him, but he wouldn't have been their choice.

I think you should know about this more than we do, I live in Sweden and I hear news about changes and coups.

thats exactly the point, most of the dissatified people who wanted to do something about it left the country.. i wont be surprised if the syrians living outside syria outnumber those who live in it.

This applies to the Lebanese, we who live outside definitely outnumber the ones in the country.

Alawis will never let that happen that easy, they own the whole fvckin army.. I heard some stories that Basshars uncle will replace him "rif3at".that's even worse :undecide:

Btw,who could believe in that crap??An animal like Ghazi Kanaan, who has no mercy, how could he make a suicide because of News reports.at least they could come up with a better story.

But what I expect is this,in the report, they will find Syria related to the murder, and guess who is Gulity? Allah yrhamo :D

Ghazi Kanaan didn't kill himself, thats for sure, It's simply the Syrian Secret Service to do this...

Now another thing, Why the hell didn't they show his body on Tv yet? Thats what keeps me doubting that he's really dead. It could be a game in the end....What prove us that he's the one to talk on the Lebanese Radio....No offence to the Syrian, But they've done this in the past lot of times, So I wouldn't really say Ghazi Kanaan is dead, BUT Incase he is, then there's no doubt that the Syrian-Sec-Service to do this.
