That 2nd part, never gonna happen, mate :D
One of BB's Credos is that WRs are not worth drafting early in the draft, let alone early in the 1st round. Only offensive player he'd consider drafting that early in the 1st would be a LT or a QB.
If they do get such an early pick, most likely they trade back a couple of times or they go defense - e.g. Jon Allen, Re Foster or Malik Hooker.

Defense. Defense. Defense. baby :D

Brady could def use a big wide-out to throw to but I'd think they bring back M. Floyd on the cheap for that role.

P.S. btw, I don't think much of Mike Williams, tbh - nowhere as clean a prospect as what you'd hope to get with such an early pick. I for one think his ceiling in the NFL is an Alshon Jeffrey, if that, and not a Julio Jones or AJ Greene - just not a must-have, exceptional talent for the WR position.
And coming out of that Clemson system, he is nowhere near good enough of a route-runner or familiar with concepts on O, which Pats require heavily from their WRs.
Williams will probably be gone by mid 1st round but I think his actual value as a prospect is more of a late 1st rounder/early 2nd.

No, because he is successful in life, a winner and goes home to Giselle. This reminds the average person out there how much their life just plain sucks.
His orange pet is just the latest excuse to hate on Brady, who was the most hated athlete in US way before his Trump connection ever became relevant.

You see Alshon Jeffery, I see Dez Bryant when it comes to Mike Williams.

And this kid has already overcome adversity, coming back from a broken neck the way he did. I really think that if the Patriots do get a pick high enough to take Williams, they will do so. They would want to give Brady as many weapons as possible. Hell, they owe him at least that much

- - - Updated - - -

Be that as it may, the main obstacle in the way of your prediction still remains - Patriots just don't value the WR position enough to go for it that early in the draft.
But have they really ever had a chance to grab one of these stud Wideouts before now? They have a major bargaining chip in Garoppolo

That injury, and Williams' history of other, less severe but seemingly lingering injuries, would be a negative, imo, in his eval as a prospect. Good story but could well turn off some teams from taking him that early in the draft.

IIRC, BB has had only two times a pick in top 10 during his Patriots tenure (also thru trades) - Seymour and Mayo.
It is a legit question to ask if he'd have taken a JJ or a Greene had they been within range.
Considering how little attention he's paid to the WR position over the years - basically surrounding Brady with no-namers and other team's sloppy seconds - I'd say no.
I'd think that if he valued the WR position to the extent of investing so heavily in it, he'd have done it already thru free agency, if the draft just never gave him that opportunity due to Pats picking so late year after year.

You pinpointed those critical aspects of human nature so well I thought you must have had some experience with it :p

The thing is though, is that in preparation for the post Brady era, he may have to start prioritizing positions such as WR more so than he has in the past. BB always seems to have one eye towards the future with his drafts, and he knows full well that whomever comes in to take over at QB will be such a far cry from Brady.

Brady has an ability to make certain players around him look a lot better than they are. The next QB may or may not be able to do that, certainly not to the extent that Brady can. Hence, this is why I think that the Pats would pull the trigger on Williams if he is there, because A) he is a prime talent, and B), BB is very unconventional in his draft philosophy.

Some good points there - BB is indeed tough to predict as his approach to the draft and team-building has evolved thru the years.
Even in Brady's early years, however, when he was still forming as a QB, his approach to helping him out was thru a good D, good OL and making a bigger use of the run-game.

One can never truly say never when it comes to BB but I'd think he would resort to such a type of approach first before going the WR route. With the exception of Gronk and Hernandez, BB has never invested significant cap room or draft capital in any skill player on offense, even when Brady wasn't exactly Brady.

Over the past 10 years of Brady's career, one can only wonder what the Patriots would have looked like if he had had legit weapons on O ... but BB simply hasn't gone that route of roster-building, with the exception of Gronk and AH.
There is simply no basis/reason for one to expect that he'd make an exception for Mike Williams, at least imo.

Well, you knew that was going to be the case.

I see that Alshon Jeffery is a FA. Hmmmm.....

Let me check those Patriots Free agents.

Oh god, throw everything at Hightower.

Do it do it do it Shanahan

Ooooh. Logan Ryan is an UFA also.
Just realized the Patriots will have 65+ mil in cap-space this March. That should give them the opportunity to bring back some of their prized UFAs and maybe get a new toy on D (would love me some Calais Campbell :lick: )

How much will players such as Hightower, Ryan, Sheard, Branch and Bennett get in Free agency? Especially the first 3, who are at or near their prime years. The first 2 could eat up a decent amount of that Cap Space.

The 49ers , on the other hand, have no one of consequence.

And Hightower is going to want to get paid, in light of what Jamie Collins just received.

And Hightower is going to want to get paid, in light of what Jamie Collins just received.
Hightower may well be a candidate for the franchize tag - if Pats use it at all, it will be on him, no one else.
He is a different player than Collins though - DH is more of a 2-down backer, while Collins is a 3-down backer and offers elite athleticism - one of few players out there comparable to Kuechly in that regard. So, while it;s tempting to think Hightower gets that sort of money, I think his market may turn out to be on the lower side. Time will tell ...

Ryan, based on the year he's had, could well get a 10+ mil per type of contract on the FA market, which Pats will not give him. It's possible, however, teams see him as a "product of the Patriots system". That may give the Pats a chance at keeping him but I doubt it - I think he is as good as gone, at this point in time.

Sheard did not have a very good year in 2016 and saw his role decrease compared to the last 5-6 weeks of 2015 season when he looked great. Sheard even got benched by BB a couple of times this year for not keeping to his assignments on the field.
I think Pats would like to bring him back if the price is right but don;t think they see him as anything more than a depth/role player right now. Don;t think he could ask for all that big or long-term of a contract on the FA market - in 2015 he signed a two-year, prove-it type of deal with the Pats and don;t think things would be any different this year.
Can't see any team offering Sheard a 4 year, 40 mil deal - he could well be in line for another 2-year 10-12 mil deal, which is what Pats gave him back in 2015.

Branch has been great bu he is already 32-33 yo, so that would naturally put a damper on what teams would be willing to invest in him going forward. Nothing more than a 2 year deal for 7-8 mil total, if that.

Bennett played thru some injuries this year, which didn't let him have that stand-out year in the passing game people expected. And for what it may be worth, he looked way better in the passing game when Gronk was around as opposed to when Bennett was the main TE. Again, he's had to deal with some injuries (ankle hairline fracture, knee etc), so it's tough to gauge his performance this year, especially after Gronk went down.

Problem with him is he is 30 yo and has a history of being a difficult character to deal with. Several months of good behavior with the Pats don't change that. As talented as he may be, I don't see many teams being willing to tie up a lot of money in him to the tune of 4 years, 30+ mil.
In fact, he may be more valuable to the Pats (because of how they use the TE position and their ability to keep a lid on his eccentric behavior) than most other teams out there.
My guess is Bennett goes out on the market, tests his value and comes back to the Pats after realizing he doesn't have as big a market as he thought he did. A contract to the tune of 3 years, 18-20 mil deal would make sense for both sides, I think.

Coming out from under a rock, mate, or just freshly waking up from of a decade-long coma? :p

Those clowns you threw in there are nowhere near relevant enough to compare to Brady. Floyd M is a legend in his sport but boxing hasn't been relevant since Tyson and Holyfield retired.
NFL is the king and Brady is the king of the NFL. If he doesn't smile wide enough or long enough to reporters he will get more hate than Mayweather abusing and raping 10 women on the Nightly News.

Alshon is the type of monster Chicago would be smart to get rid of ASAP. So, no thanks. ;)
of course we will..he never ever proved himself the 1st wc in a full season. he's always injured, inconsistent or suspended...and to get 1st tier money? fuck no...meredith did more than him last season. if we're getting rid of cutler, he needs to fly out too. or get back with a decent salary.
