Brees was decent during his time at Purdue but nothing spectacular. He is an elite QB in the NFL and I commend him for that. The guy likes to play with a chip on his shoulder whether it was during his collegiate career trying to show the critics that UT was dumb for not recruiting him even though he was a local boy with a great arm. Or when he left SD to go to NO and prove to the Spanos family that they made a bad choice in not resigning him and opting for Rivers instead. And now the who city of NO bit. This trend has been worn out.

I love it when a game is won by tactics. This is the first superbowl I have ever seen and it was a really nice build up and game. Good win by the Saints was rooting for them during the week.

yup that onside kick turned everything around...
It didn't turn everything around, IMO. The Saints were dominating for the previous quarter to that -- just without all the points to show for it. But it was a good call. Sean played to win, and the Colts were playing not to lose. (Sound familiar, Juve fans?)

actually the garcon drop was even bigger imo
Bah. I don't lend much to these what-if scenarios. Garcon doesn't drop, and on the next set of downs Manning could have been intercepted and taken to the house. We don't know.

of all people we juve fans shouldnt doubt the power of momentum, it is for a reason that only 2 teams(these saints is one of them) came back from 10 point deficits in the SB, garcon grabs that they get at least 3 more points and effectively deflate the opposition.

Momentum could have just as easily died after the next series of downs, though. It is no forgone conclusion that Garcon's drop prevented yet another first down, let alone an inevitable touchdown.

This is why the business of thinking "what if" for things that didn't happen, but could have, is a futile exercise compared to the business of thinking what actually did happen.

And as a Juve fan, I think it's futile to go over how a game could have gone for penalties not given. That's all fantasyland stuff. You never have any idea what chain of events can transpire after an event that you cannot see.

That was one gutsy call. The Saints were always going for it and thats how they got over the line.

And can we say Manning chocked?
The Saints failure on 4th down at the 2 was a great contrast. You take a risk, you're not always going to get it. I don't think you can have one without the other.

And Manning perhaps didn't choke as much as his coach did. Or some of his receivers did for that matter. I mean, even Reggie Wayne muffed a toss into his hands just before the end zone towards the end of the game.

That was an absolutely fucking brutal drop, by an elite receiver. No excuse on that one... none.

Frankly, Reggie Wayne's route on that back breaking interception was also pretty weak. He doesn't sell it, and then plants soft... almost just leans in after the stutter... poor burst, poor cut. Just an ugly play.

Manning throws a bad ball over the middle, so he's ultimately accountable, but neither one of those guys did their job properly on that one. Wayne was nicked going into the game, and it likely showed a bit on that play. His concentration slipped on a few occasions, which is unfortunate for colts fans; the guy's usually rock solid.

Anyway, I had Brees in my football pool this season, and he did really well for me, so I've got a bit of a soft spot for him. Not a fan of either team, so I was passively cheering for the underdog... spread those championships around.

GO 49ers!!

I have limited knowledge about the game tbh.

The coaches did muff a couple of calls (manning was pissed off over the one that they decided to try to kick instead of punt) and ofcourse Wayne. But I thought he chocked in one aspect by always going to Wayne. Every time he got stuck, he did the exact same guy (the other times he ran it to that other dude). But I thought there was not variety. Then again maybe I misunderstood how the game and plans go.
