Cap is going up and that shows in the often over-inflated deals good but-not-great players are getting these days - Vernon, Jackson, Cox, etc.

Luck's deal is an extension i.e. it takes into account future cap growth too but above all, he is a top young QB in a QB-driven league - Colts had no choice but lock him up at a big pricetag.

As for his bad 2015 season, one could well argue that was the culmination of a series of failed attempts by the Colts front office to surround him with decent talent at OL and RB, as well as Defense. What I mean is, you can't take that one sub-par season at face value.

Imagine if Rodgers was at the end of his contract, would you laugh at the Packers for giving him a top-dollar deal (a good 25 mil per, if not more, in the current market) just because he sucked in 2015? :p

You swine, you.

But Rodgers sucking equals a playoff win, and divisional OT game loss... and still a top 10 QB in the league...

Luck sucking, equals one of the worst QBs in the league, and getting benched by Matt Hasselback. :D

I understand why the Colts did it, I just see it as a bit of Flacco type deal. They gave too much based on very inconsistent play. They probably could have negotiated a little harder, and knocked that down a little.

We shall see though. He reminds me of a young Brett Favre.

I think you forgot a smiley after "you swine, you"

Rodgers plays for one of the best run teams in the league and still it took losing one single WR for him to look like 40 yo Brett's used underwear. :D

Thruout his career, Luck has had to bear the consequences of playing on a team managed by that incompetent fuck Ryan Grigson.
Sure, Luck has shown propensity to throw INTs and didn't look good even before he got injured last year but with him there is always an argument to be made that he's carried a horrendous roster as far as humanly possible, year-in year-out.

And come on now - mentioning Flacco and Luck in the same sentence? Really? What is next, you gonna compare Rodgers to Brady? :p

I know, I know... Rodgers is a clear class above Brady. To blaspheme the great Rodgers by associating him with a mere mortal like Brady... poor form on my part. Apologies, my dear fellow. :p

On a more serious note, you make good points. I suppose it's just a bit of a shock to see a "relatively" unproven young QB like Luck getting such a massive long term deal. But... as a counterpoint... young QBs with that much talent, and who have accomplished that much already with a fairly poor team surrounding them are very rare... and with their QB settled long term, they can focus on putting a better team around him, and allowing him to maximize his considerable talents.

Hopefully it doesn't work out though. Never been a fan of the Colts. :D

Brock's deal is basically a 2 year deal.
Why would they pay so much in his first two years if they don't intend on paying him the last two?

Sure, if something happens to him at least they're not totally fucked but they're definitely putting their eggs in the Assweiler basket.

Only the first two are guaranteed bro. If it doesn't work out after two, we can cut him without paying him. It is actually a pretty decent contract.

Luck had a really bad year last year but he's still only 26. There is no way that Indianapolis takes that chance of losing him in free agency. He's a franchise QB, no doubt about it.
