Alright kids, it is time that I choose a team in NFL. I know basic stuff about the game but really have no idea, I have always liked the sport but have rarely had the opportunity to watch it. Now that I can someone needs to convince me to go for a team, go! :D I am leaning towards the 49ers, bears or the Lions.

when in doubt, go with the best :D

still not convinced? well here is another reason why :p

P.S. I am a Pats fan so I am biased on this but other teams I like are the Giants, the Ravens, the Bears and the Eagles ... some food for thought :D

An entertaining team that isn't retarded in defense, I hear that Detroit meet these criteria.
As I said I don't know a whole lot about NFL

What A sez. Go with where you feel being pulled. International coverage of Lions games is poor, but they're still better than being a Cowboys fan. They're like Manchowder United disgusting... but without the talent.

Lions are perennial losers. Dome teams are, IMO, lame in the NFL. In a winter sport, you're flaunting the weather of the season. So hence why I prefer the likes of Chicago, Green Bay, even Buffalo for that matter.

The Patriots are an entertaining team, but they can get retarded in D sometimes. The Colts have been like that in the Manning era. And then there's the Hoosier Dome. Saints are like that, but they play in a dome. :p Too bad Cleveland sucks all ass -- they could have potential if they weren't run by clowns who try to rival the Lions' worst days.

to be honest I am not really sure why you need to have a team in the NFL when you obviously aren't familiar enough with the league and sport otherwise you wouldn't be asking for advise on this ... I mean it's not like the world is gonna end if you don't have a team in the NFL :p

It makes sense, at least to me, to be a fan of a team when you feel a special, natural connection with that team and their philosophy as an organization ... not when you wait for someone to sell you the idea of supporting a given team well enough so you can go and buy their scarf the next day :D ... that's a pretty artificial and forced way of looking for a connection that really isn't there, imo.

now, obviously someone has been trying really hard to sell you on supporting the Lions - and yes, they are a bunch of overcompensating, perennial losers :D - but you seem to biting into this mostly out of some need to find a team and not because you feel that connection with them, which seems rather pointless imo.
All in all, which team to support is a choice you need to make on your own, not wait for someone to push you into it.

It's not easy to sit around watching a sport and try to get into it when you have no real allegiances to form, waiting for them to come to you. They're football teams, not hookers.

 Who, bias aside, is the team most like Juve? :D I think I need to choose someone to really get into it, something about the 49ers is working for me but I don't want to feel like a glory hunter.

If it's a team like Juve, you kind of have to think:
- strong legacy
- a lot of championships
- not the most finesse on the pitch, but a lot of guts and heart

Sounds to me like the Pittsburgh Steelers. And given Juve of late, more like the Chicago Bears. :frown:

Though this year's 49ers is a better version of the Chicago Bears than the Bears have been in years. If that makes sense.

Are the bears on the way up though? What sort of history do the 49ers have? My dad went for the dolphins but really I feel no connection to them.

Bears are kind of floundering.

49ers were the most glorious team in the 1980s, had a brief spell in the 90s, and have floundered for the past decade until now.

Ownership failures mostly. They need a savior like a Dan Marino to build around to get them outta that funk. They haven't been good since before Dan Marino started selling Isotoner gloves.

Just look at that hair... Wasn't he Screech in "Saved by the Bell"??

 Marino was the man, I think that is why my dad loved them. What about the bears? I sort of have a thing for them after watching a documentary about their team of 85 or whatever it was.

That 85 team was epic. I mean, I had never seen that before in sports. The players -- and how they played -- were like public folk heroes. I don't know if I will ever witness something like that again. It was like top-notch pro football and professional wrestling combined into one. The NFL never had it so good.

But besides a lucky SuperBowl appearance a few years ago where they deservingly lost to the Colts, they've only been in one SB in 40 years. Before that, they reigned in Championships like Juve.
