So, lets say that we can sell Amauri to Villa in the summer for 6-8M Euros. Until then, we will have to pay him 2.45M Euros, or we could cancel his contract now for the cancellation fee, whatever that is.

Since I think we could get that much for him, it wouldn't make sense to cancel his contract despite the blown wages.

I don't know when will his contract expire. If it's summer 2012 then canceling his contract in January will cost us around 6-6.5m eur, I think. Needless thing to do.

Then again, if he does a Tiago and decides to just sit in Turin and get his money, then we will have to pay around 12m eur (including taxes) until his contract expires.

The smartest thing to do is to wait till the summer and see if we can sell him. If not, then cancel his contract and save some 4m eur that we were gonna pay for the taxes.
Or maybe he'll get back to the 2008 form and we might let him play the last season of his contract (sorry Hustini :D)

Everything. I no intelligent, I no understand. You no make da fun of me

Seriously though, I see that Alen came up with 6-6.5m €, a figure he thinks would be realistic, which it may be. But I'm not really sure how he came up with that figure, hence my question.

Well Amauri is on a 4.2m a year salary. His contract runs out at 2012 summer. So if we sack him in january we'll owe him a 1.5 year salary, which is around 6.5m. Plus side is we won't have to pay taxes of the same amount for him anymore.

Is anyone absolutely certain of this?
I'm not familiar with Italian law, but buying out a contract (or rescinding it) usually doesn't mean the taxes are cancelled.

If my employer cancels my contract today & I don't have to come in anymore, he'd need to pay out what he "owes" me (for the legal amount of time). He'd also still need to pay the remaining taxes. Could be different with an Italian (sports) contract, but I somehow doubt that.

I don't know but what Alen said seems logical to me. You pay taxes for the employ you pay, when your employee is fired, runs out of contract, etc. you're obligated towards him, not the state.

But I could be very much wrong. :p

Of course. But when you pay your employee is of little importance I'd think. That's how it works over here at least.

When a contract runs out, it's a totally different thing, since you will have paid the total amount (to both employee & state) by the time it runs out.

But if you cancel the contract by paying it out in full at a certain point in time or when you sack someone, you still have obligations towards both the state & the employee.
Unless of course you come to some sort of arrangement where the employee is willing to forego (part of) what he's entitled to, then the state is "forced" to do the same (since no taxes can be collected on an amount that is not paid in the first place).

I've experienced these situations quite often in the recent past, since a lot of my (former) colleagues have quit their job.

It might be different in Italy though.
