Would you say it was a bad piece of business by Marotta allowing that clause in the first place?
Of course not. You pay a relatively low price for a talent. Because he has proven nothing so far you don't want to take the gamble and pay more. If he does well, Real can take him back, but you're compensated because you are the reason his market price went up.

It's a pretty solid deal from both parties involved. It just sucks that it might mean Morata leaves.

it was discussed countless times i guess. as far as i know, that was the only way to get him, period.
:agree:

Other teams offered Madrid more money for him, but they wouldn't sell him for any kind of reasonable price without the buyback clause.

SO we took him with buyback. And if Madrid buys him back, we'll end up +10 mil on the deal, and a run to the CL final in large part thanks to his goals. He helped make us a ton of money, and he helped to us into a European force to be reckoned with.

Any chance he will play for Juve next season?
I'm still confident he is staying here, some people got it absolute right, either he's stay here or go to madrid, no way he's that dumb to accept epl clubs, furthermore there is no way fucking real madrid is only cashing him for 20 million profits, it's fucking real madrid not sevilla or the likes of milan sisters who are starving for every penny, why would real madrid go with such time and resources consuming effort for what is equivalent to pocket change to them? Unless someone is offering madrid 75 million or such (so they can get 40+ million in profit after paying us) I don't think they would willing to do business, and there still the player motivation still need to be taken care with.

because maybe morata is not willing to accept their bench?. If they are clear with him and he refuses to be a benchwarmer, they can easily pay us the clause and then dispatch him because they will not be able to use him anyways.

Yes real madrid can easily pay us 30 million, which reinforce the question why would they do some complicated negotiations just to gain 20 million profits by involving a 3rd club? I mean there is this factual possible reality that if they are not paying us 30 millions then that alone is already 10 million more available money for real madrid than the other scenario in which it become -30+50=20 million worth of morata value if he is sold to 3rd party club who must be willing to pay 50 million for morata, that is the logic, so unless someone offering real madrid 60-70+ million there is very little chance of morata leaving to a 3rd club.

It's not like real madrid has an obligation to buy back morata.

20 million is never peanuts my friend. Here is the profits of the top clubs ranked:

1. Manchester United: $190 million

2. Real Madrid: $162 million

3. Manchester City: $131 million

4. Arsenal: $122 million

5. Liverpool: $115 million

6. Barcelona: $108 million

7. Juventus: $81 million

8. Tottenham Hotspur: $73 million

9. Schalke: $67 million

10. Bayern Munich: $60 million

That is in USD not EUR. So 20 mill EUR is never peanuts to any business entity let alone a football club. I am sure the few phone calls and meetings and what not is worth 20 mill EUR. They are not Al Pacino in Scarface

but you forget that we already paid Real 20m 2 years ago.
So +20-30+50= +40 at very least.
