Anyone remember what we told the Argies, Russians, and Indonesians to do back in the 90s? Funny how we never heed our own advice.
That usually happens. Just like how spreading capitalism could come back to haunt us.

As bad as it sounds, I think it's wrong to pull a Chavez. We don't need to be using tax payer funds to reward Wall Street for their short comings.

not sure i am getting what you re saying
I must not be getting what you're saying either. What I'm asking is if Paulson wasn't the Treasury Secretary, would Goldman go down a la Lehman?

I certainly wouldn't think so because Goldman is, well, Golden.

SEC has banned the short sale of 799 Financial stocks.

IS this really good for the market? Or is the government just taking the piss here?

Yeah. I wonder since when do we pull a reverse Russia and start publicizing all our private companies. :(

"Say, Roman Abramovic -- you've wasted so much money on crap talent like Paulo Ferreira and Andriy Shevchenko and still haven't won a CL. How about we give you $50 billion and buy back your oil company?"

So much for the liberty of a free market economy...

I don't like this inability to short these financial stocks. These companies have real problems that aren't due to short sellers.

First financial bailouts, now halting shorting these stocks. Are these assholes who created this mess in the first place with their carelessness ever going to pay?

    :howler:

    Altair:

I just saw a chart of Pakistan's stock market when they banned short selling.

Once they banned it, the whole market went to hell. :howler:

Watch yourself Andy before I trade you a 3-2-1 B. crack spread; and you're the one with the underlying.

Oil back up to $110 today. Some experts are saying $147 again in the future, but technicals from Friday are still saying completely bearish. Should be interesting how this "New Wall Street" plays out.
