Is it a coincidence that the shitty transfers, transfer targets and horrible transfer priorities seem to have ended as soon as Ranieri got kicked out? I mean, fair enough, the Diego deal has been on the agenda for quite a while, but if Secco was giving the coach the transfers the coach requested, irrespective of how shitty they were, then Secco was never the problem, but Ranieri was. A sporting director who does not provide his coach what the coach requests is only going to cause tension and trouble, so maybe all the hate directed at Secco in the last couple of years should have been directed at that dim witted old fool who doesn't know the difference between a substitution and a submarine.
Say what you want about Ranieri, but I don't think it's fair to blast him about his transfer strategy. Sure, he made some questionable decisions e.g Xabi Alonso, but he had nowhere near the kind of transfer kitty that was made available to us this season.
I'd happily be the first to say that Ranieri is a crap coach, but one can't deny that he has an eye for talent. Don't forget that he was the one who assembled the core of the Chelsea team, bringing in players like Lampard, Drogba, Makelele, Terry and Joe Cole.

Don't want to start a polemic about Ranieri, especially because he is in the past now. But is his eye for talent the reason why he left Giovinco on the bench in a season whereas Marchionni played most, if not all, the games he could play?
I'm not saying that out past transfers were completely Ranieri's fault. It's never that simple, but i'm also convinced that it's also not as simple as Secco seeing the light one fine morning and cultivating a couple of balls. The change in coach is in my opinion a very important factor in the success of this transfer campaign. Secco was neither stupid then, nor is he a genius now. He just needed some direction and some favourable conditions (like a decent budget).

After all, the ones who know what is it about formations and team in general is the coach, If he ask for certain players,,,those players should be bought. The sporting director should help in the process,,, but the ciaches are the ones which know how the team behaves and what they need.

He did give an extended run to Marchisio. I doubt if Giovinco will get any better playing time this season under Ciro too. Its not his lack of talent. Just that the kid is stuck at the wrong place in the wrong time. As for Marchionni, he's a decent player. Sadly he sucked for us. In Ranieri's formation replacing Camo with Marchionni made more sense as Marchionni is a pure right winger and Camo's direct substitute.
Ranieri was a decent coach for us, just that he lost his plot towards the end. His unwillingness to change the 4-4-2 irritated the hell out of me.
