I thought you said you were pleased that we had signed Diego. The only story about Diego this week was out of Tuttosport, so I assumed that's what you were talking about (even though the story didn't say it was done, just that progress was being made).

Ok fair enough, he's not official yet because he hasn't been presented. I didn't get it from Tuttosport though. It's on all the news sites. Reuters, Soccernet, Sportal, Channel 4, Calcio Mercato. They all say the same thing in principle, we've agreed terms with Diego, agreed a fee with Bremen and basically just waiting for it to be announced to make it official.

Although considering last summer and Xabi Alonso, not to mention Millito, I can understand that you'll wait for the official announcement before believing it.

Martin, it did start in Tuttosport (Unreliable or not, they are a Turin based newspapers afterall, so they probably have better connections inside our team) but all the others confirm it. Even the reliable Gazzetta confirms that the deal is made, without using Tuttosport as the source (25m eur to Werder and 3.5m a year, for 5 years, to Diego).

It's starting to appear that this may just be the case. IMO, 23-25M is reasonable for the player...

I'm still waiting to hear some rumors/movement on some defenders, specifically a RB. Please Mr. Secco, please find us a RB with some technical quality and pace...

It would be foolish to expect him to make Moggi-like deals from day one. And that's what many expected.

That's absolutely true Jack, as Luciano was a master, who had the luxury of a fat wallet.

It definitely would have been a good idea to hire someone with a little more experience than Secco in the first place, but we're past that, and he's not going anywhere for the time being.

There were clearly some situations that Secco (and co.) missed pretty huge on, or misread (no need to rehash), but there was also a situation like Andrade's injury which really compounded the negative perception of his dealings. After all, we've needed to spend on our Defense for a long time now (as we all know, and as the chart of expenditures that Alen produced earlier today clearly described), and a fit Andrade would have been a major plus.

It's also difficult to understand the level of control over our transfer proceedings that Secco has actually had throughout the past couple of mercato's. We know the funds are limited, and I think this has clearly been a "sporting director by committee" approach that we've taken; Blanc is certainly involved in a lot of the financial details, and Cobolli and Ranieri obviously have had some sort of input in the selection process as well.

Anyways, here's hoping that many lessons have been learned, and that we're in for an exciting round of acquisitions!

moggi never had a fat wallet to spend from, the guy would spend much when he sells someone for $$. And he was brilliant in getting players for cheap (not all of he's buys) and selling them for a big profit.

As for secco getting Diego would be a step in the right direction but personaly (and i know he's lovers would go crazy on me for this) i think getting Diego wasn't such a HUGE achievement. I mean after all not many clubs would match what we offered to bremen (if the 25 mil figure in right) but atleast he chose the right "quality" player for once and thats definately an upgrade for Secco.

He obviously spent well and sold high, that was part of the “Luciano was a master” comment. As for the fat wallet part, which was a general comment….

When compared to the type of funds that we came out of Serie B with (very minimal, relative to the number of pieces needed), Luciano had plenty to spend (Player wages included). He had a much better team to add select pieces to - which makes a huge difference. Not to mention that Juventus was a more attractive destination for players before our relegation, than in these past few seasons.

The process of securing players for decent fees is greatly facilitated when your trading partners know that you’re not desperate, and when players actively want to join your team.

We also spent pretty huge on some players in the years right before Moggi assumed the position, highlighted by Vialli, and Baggio - both of those players were world transfer records at the time of their signings.

Our team obviously took a massive financial hit after Calciopoli – that’s all I was trying to say with that fat wallet comment. Juventus was the third richest club in the world pre-calciopoli (if I’m not mistaken… now we’re what… 10th? Can’t remember for sure). If we had really needed to spend a little more, we could have.

Luciano obviously had considerably more to work with than Secco, in every facet of the transfer process (money, experience, a hugely desirable club, input/support from credible board members, reputation, strong ownership, etc).

We've had a young rookie sporting director trying to buy quality at discount prices for the past two+ years... and we needed quite a few new players in this transition. That's not exactly the optimal way to galvanize a team that's been gutted. Plus, we don't really know the level of control Secco actually has in our market dealings. The BOD operates as a unit, and from what I've seen they have a strict plan of action that doesn't appear to leave a great deal of room for flexibility

Anyways, I'm EXTREMELY FAR (!) from a fan of Secco... and as I mentioned in the previous post, he shouldn't have been appointed in the first place.

Hopefully this board finally does what has been long overdue, and secures some quality for our back line. I love Silva, but if Diego is secure, than we need to be pragmatic, forget about David for now, and really focus on some quality for the Defense.

I dont think that anyone expected from Secco Vieiras and Cannavaros right away.
Its failing to achieve the analogies, releasing free players we could use for depth or as bargain tools, overpaying for no ones and respect no 5 year plan, what pit us against Secco's actions!!
But there is just one think the Moggi had and you forgot to mention; and thats EFFICIENCY!!!

We never had the funds to bet the best players from Milan's claws or to field Inter's depth.
But our first eleven were kickin @sses!! Being successful and rebuilding a team after an end of an era was mostly because of Moggi's efficiency.
He was able to swap useless material for useful material and then co own it, trade it and resell it for top material!
He made money out of nowhere. Swaping Cannas for Carinis and netting Mutu's for free. We were not anyone b!itches like then, like we are Fiorentina's now.
We could co-own Miccoli however times we wanted, without risking a Criscito...

Secco is wasting money here and there, he is unable to sell anything.
We are still Juventus and we still have a better than average team prestige
and the a decent transfer budget we could use far more efficiently than that!!!
We still have champions and we can still play in CL and provide with temptation for a better league ranking than the majority of the serie A teams!
But we still have issues finding defenders as good as Udinese has (Felipe, Zapata) and midfielders like Napoli's (Hamsik)
So, no need to make excuses, for there are any!
From the millions we wasted away for Andrade, Criscito's half, Iaquinta, Tiago and Almiron we got absolutely no starter and just a couple of squad players!!
Just imagine what Moggi would have done if he had those funds available!!
EVEN THEN, right when we got back to serie A, with the material to reach at least for an UEFA spot, at the worst case scenario and for a CL spot at the best case.
By this summer, Moggi would have provided us with at least 6 starters and adding them to our remaining champions, we would already be competitive.

Between Moggi and Secco, there are hundreds of decent and competitive managers that would have done so much better than Secco, but not as good as Moggi. ATM, the board we have is not the board we are worthy of!!
I reckon that the board we had, was even better than the board we were worthy of and we were spoiled because of that. But i was warry of that and really appreciated the effectiveness and competitiveness of our board.
That was always one of the main reasons i was admiring Juventus.

Secco is only good at preserving, at best, an empire than Moggi built.
Using a superior prestige team and funds, to grab what lower teams cant.
But he cant build anything by his own and at any case, he cant even come close to the competitiveness of the better clubs!!
Calciopoli has ruined and to become competitive again, we have to make leaps towards the top and overcome their growth! Having less funds and influence, we must be as efficient as possible!
This is the only chance we have to ever become competitive again!
Secco has wasted a fortune and learned little to nothing!!
He needs a life time to improve and by the time he becomes a decent manager,
the slow rythm of decay we are falling in the last year, will let us no chances for the come back...

I dont understand why we should go down with Secco, when we have the option to replace him with a half decent manager!!

The thing is, we've spent in the last 2 seasons around 100 mil euros ( i couldn't believe it myself but its true i've checked the figures ). So its not like we didn't have the money, we did and we've wasted that money.

Check this out, out of the starting 11 that played against milan just few days ago only 4 players were the one's we've bought (last two seasons) the rest were allready our players before the calciopoli ( c.zanetti, buffon, chiellini, legro, camo, marchioni +del piero, zebina and if nedved was fit you're find him starting). So in reallity that money was spent on bench players (excluding amauri and sissoko) .

The management made lots of mistakes in the past two years thats a fact. Hopefully they won't continue making those mistakes in the next few years. Getting Diego (in case it happened) is a step in the right direction.

But we still need many many steps like that to get back to our best. By the way i don't think that Secco is dump or he's someone who doesn't know whats he's doing (he showed that he has an eye for great talents when we targeted players like ivanovic, alonso, diego....) but the problem is we usually end up not getting those quality players and we target the "easy" and cheap ones (andrade, almiron, poulsen...).

I think this summer will show us what's secco is really about. If we sign Diego + "Quality" full back (plus we allready know that canavarro is in he's way here) then thats a plus for Secco and the rest of the management. But we need to continue going down that road for the next 3-4 years to actually build a quality team.

And one more thing, ranieri should be fired ASAP if we want to actually advance forward ........
