In Italy the owner, or the club directors, are usually the ones who choose the players and the coach is usually just a Yes man. Many times he's not even asked if he wants some player.
But in our case i think a mutual agreement between the coach and the directors is needed to sign a player.

and takes months to reach an agreement and in the end we lose out on that player.
The only case was Gabriel Milito. Alonso's case does not fit your prototype.
Ivanovic was missed out because of wages.
Flamini was also missed out because of wages.

Other than that, it's just the ugly amount of transfer rumours is what makes Secco less "talented" than what he actually is.

Alonso was targeted for weeks but the coach didn't want him while others did. They can talk about wages and in the end say it's not worth it and don't buy him. Could be a mistake or good thing(Flamini).

In the end, I'm happy we didn't get Milito.

I know thus your statement does not apply to Alonso's case. We did not lose out on Alonso because the deal took too long to finalize. As I said, the only deal that applies your statement is Gabriel MIlito which means you generalize out of the result of ONE case.

Did we deal for Xabi or not? Juve management talked about him and tried to make a deal but in the end went for Poulsen who was CR's choice thus us missing out on him.

We missed out on him because Ranieri wanted Poulsen instead not because the deal went too long to bag.

Why do you ask me? Maybe the management thought he'd be an interesting purchase where Ranieri thought he wouldn't be. Maybe that's why the negotiations took too long because in the club we weren't decided on whether to have him or not. And once Ranieri mentioned Poulsen the deal was sealed in a matter of days.

for 10m € when he was gonna be available for free in the summer.

but for me it's still missing out on Xabi. We could of had Xabi but got Poulsen. Do you get what I'm saying?

No. The whole thing started by you saying that Secco misses out on transfers because they take too long to seal. This statement applies to only ONE player.

We missed Ivanovic.

We actually wanted him when no one else did and where he was available for 8mln euros.
His club delayed the deal and got a bigger sum from Chelsea and the player got higher wages. Can you beat money?

I already mentioned Ivanovic and Flamini, they don't fit Mark's claim.

We talked to Liverpool for weeks, didn't make it happen for $$$, coach choice and decided on Poulsen.

That Xabi Alonso transfer was way too complicated.
I don't think Ranieri would have refused to sign Xabi if there were good chances to sign him.
Poulsen was indeed his choice and maybe even if there was a choice Poulsen or Xabi, Ranieri would have still decided to go after Poulsen.

But our option was:
Poulsen vs Garteh Barry to sign for Liverpool so they could sell Alonso and then Juve to immediately pay 100% of Xabi's transfer fee.
