Angelo Alessio is confident the Bianconeri can return to winning ways in Sunday’s encounter against Genoa. The assistant manager is set to take the reins following Antonio Conte’s one-match touchline ban and outlined his desire to bring an end to a run of three successive draws.

The 46-year-old began by providing his views on events in Bologna: “Antonio was the victim of an injustice. He’s always behaved correctly towards referees and their assistants. We were all there and know how things panned out. He’s very bitter about this touchline ban and I hope that we don’t see this kind of situation arise again.”

Alessio then sought to curb any fears over Conte’s absence having an adverse affect on the team, believing that the Bianconeri will go to the Luigi Ferraris with more determination than ever to grind out a result.

“We’ll face Genoa just like we’ve approached all the other teams,” he continued. “This side has a spirit constructed in eight months of work. Tomorrow they’ll be even angrier because of the situation and will redouble their efforts.”

Injured duo Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini will again be sidelined for the encounter, while Leonardo Bonucci’s red card in Bologna sees the defender serve a one-match ban.

Alessio discussed the potential options available: “We’ve tried both Vidal and Marrone and Antonio will make his decision in the final training session. We won’t be changing the system in this moment of difficulty. As far as Chiellini’s concerned, we hope he recovers for the Fiorentina game. He’s working, but we need to be cautious with his type of injury.”

Attentions immediately turned from defence to attack, as the press conference drew to a close with a comment on the Bianconeri's strikeforce.
“There’s no hierarchy between the strikers,” concluded Alessio. “Those who take to the field will always be picked with the opposition in mind. We’ve created opportunities, but have either been kept at bay by the goalkeeper, or a lack of precision in front of goal. We’re working on this and we hope to achieve the results.”
