Sadly, I dont think Matri will make a big difference against Palermo. While he might be a useful addition to bang in a few goals (since we had no goalscorer), his purchase did not resolve any of our other problems, the terrible defence (especially fullbacks) and complete lack of creativity in our attack, where we've been struggling to create anything since Quag got injured, when we lost all mobility in attack.

While he might (maybe not radically) improve our team, fact is, things dont look very good for the rest of the season as none of our real problems were solved.

Now here's a question

How come players like Pazzini, Matri, Gilardino etc. play only in Italy? That type of player isn't really noticeable in England or Spain while both are better leagues who tend to do much better in Europe.

Real, Barca, Sevilla, Villareal, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester etc. don't use those.

How come those players never left aboard and got stuck in Italy for their whole career? People were saying how Gila was wanted by foreign clubs but we'll see if he goes somewhere (he won't).
Think this is one of those cases where Italy and Serie A can't be blamed. Intelligent strikers have always thrived in the league due to the tactical and pragmatic approach to football. The reported values of Pazzini and Matri are instead spent on physical and pacey forwards (England) or technical and unpredictable ones (Spain).

Obviously there are exceptions and what I write is stereotypical, but as a comparison; how many Italian or Spanish teams would pay such enormous amounts on Carroll or Bent?

I wish we would go after the likes of Rossi, Balotelli and Pazzini. Because they're the ones getting called up.

I don't really know which player you're referring to that we've signed?

You really underrated Bent if you include him with those guys.
We will make Prandelli see Matri's talent. :)

I'm comparing them to players like Iaquinta, Matri, Pazzini and Gilardino. Whenever players from smaller teams do good big teams are usually all over them while players like Bent, Zamora etc are still playing for smaller teams in England.

Yeah. Well type of a player does sound like an explanation, as they are not suited for foreign football.

Price is another issue. England market is hyped and their prices are just retarded, I always laughed at their transfers and numbers. Still, it seems that Italy is following their steps as Italian players are becoming more and more valued so I'm afraid we'll see retarded figures of numbers in Italy as well in a couple of years. I mean, so many mediocre players are valued high nowadays. Pazzini, Matri being over 15mln is a prime example. Ranocchia and Bonucci who came out of nowhere reached 15mln euros price. I don't think many foreign clubs would pay that much for them, despite their 'quality' as it's too much for raw talents who came from Bari.

Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has revealed that signing striker Alessandro Matri from Cagliari was not an easy transaction.

The forward moved to Turin on a six-month loan deal and the Bianconeri have the option of completing a permanent transfer for the 26-year-old for a €15.5 million fee in summer, having paid €2.5m for the loan.

“It was a difficult transaction, we took advantage of the chance given by [Cagliari] president [Massimo] Cellino who accepted to release the striker," he told Juve's official website.

"We targeted Matri some time ago and we knew that he was followed by several other clubs.

"Moreover, the transaction had to be managed on several tables, considering the simultaneous release of Amauri.”

Marotta went on to speak about Juve's failed attempt to sign Giampaolo Pazzini, who joined rivals Inter instead.

“I’m still hearing media talking about Pazzini. He’s a great player, like Matri, and many clubs wanted to sign him.

"However, Inter signed him with a permanent contract and we didn’t at this stage. We opted for a loan, intending to buy the player in June, being also aware of the possibility to add some other players as compensation.

"Maybe one of our young players who has to practice at a higher level. But I’d like to point out that the option to buy is a right, not an obligation.”

Marotta is simply kicking Matri in the ass to perform. Unless he's a total disaster of Amauri-like proportions, he'll be signed... even if he isn't worth anything near the option price.

Pepe's buy out clause is too much. I don't think we'll get him; we can get someone much better for the same price.

Motta is definitely going back.

Quag, and Aquilani should stay, but the prices should be re-negotiated.

And Matri; we shall wait and see. I hope does great and justifies his price tag; instead of hoping he fails so we can send him back.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'd be surprised if Pepe wasn't signed. My thinking is that as long as the players aren't complete disasters, Marotta will sign them. The thinking behind this is that these loan+BuyOps are insurance and a way to put off having to pay transfer installments (for whatever reason).

It's too much, but Marotta wouldn't have brought these guys in if he didn't think they were good enough. I can't see these deals being some sort of ploy to acquire players for one season and one season only. As someone already said, nobody is going to deal with us again if that's the case.

If the player is an Italy international, it's pretty much a done deal. So how i think by adding all these Italian internationals into the team Marotta & co think this will make Juventus more respectable & popular.

If that's what they think, then I don't have to name you the expletives I'd direct towards them.

But yes, it is safe to say they are trying to sign Azzurri players from a mediocre Azzurri side. What a great time to do so, the worst Italy I have personally ever seen.

It's not just the 2.5 mil, there are a lot of reasons explained in the previous posts.

I think they'll all be signed except for Motta maybe.
