Matri: ‘Racism must stop’
By Football Italia staff

Alessandro Matri says racist chanting “shouldn’t exist” but “it’s not just Lazio fans”.

The Biancocelesti were hit with a partial stadium closure for racist chanting against Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly, and are awaiting judgement for a similar offence at Sparta Prague in the Europa League.

“It shoudn’t happen,” Aquile striker Matri told children on a visit to a local school.

“Both on and off the pitch we’re all equal. The most important thing is to have fun, and try to achieve your objectives peacefully.

“Racist chanting shouldn’t exist, it represents ignorance. We can accept chants against players for the way they play, but not for the colour of their skin.

“It’s a situation that doesn’t just concern Lazio fans though, it relates to all fans.”

The forward was then asked for his favourite Coach.

“Whoever lets me play most!” Matri laughed.

“[Antonio] Conte and [Massimiliano] Allegri are the ones I did the best with, especially Allegri who I worked with at Cagliari, Milan and Juventus.
