Matri: 'I dream of Naples goal'

By Football Italia staff

Alessandro Matri admits he is “dreaming of a decisive goal in Naples. Juventus give their best under pressure.”

The striker is fighting with Mirko Vucinic and Sebastian Giovinco for a starting spot at the Stadio San Paolo on Friday evening.

“We did not let ourselves get intimidated by the cauldron of Celtic Park, so I don’t see why it should affect us on Friday,” Matri told Il Messaggero newspaper.

“Juventus give their best under pressure. We are going to play as if we were joint leaders with Napoli rather than six points in front.

“A victory there would not lock down the Scudetto, but a nine-point gap would be a lot. We are just focused on winning and won’t make calculations.”

Matri has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Turin, especially as Fernando Llorente will arrive from Athletic Bilbao in June.

“I have a four-year contract. I am happy here and have matured, so I want to continue winning here. I convinced Antonio Conte with hard work in training and by scoring, which is crucial for a striker.

“I feel that I am an important player and want to play my cards. It’s better to be one of five forwards at Juventus than a first choice elsewhere. :touched:

“You cannot understand what it means until you pull on the Juventus jersey. I was at Cagliari before, but that was different.”

The Bianconeri are Serie A leaders and in good stead to reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

“The Final at Wembley would be a dream,” added Matri. “The goal I’d love to score would be in that Champions League Final, but I’d be happy with the decisive goal against Napoli. I’d do anything to find the net there.”

It's such a strange game. I remember clearly when Matri was singlehandedly Winning us game not too long ago. He had the touches of a truly great striker. It's amazing how much he's dipped in form technically as a player. He used to drift wide and take on players, and often succeed.

I'm happy he's regaining his form back gradually recently, but I miss seeing the Matri of old, and if we make it far in the champions league, so will Juventus. We need that clinical finisher as soon as possible.

I just didn't get that sentence. Were you saying that if we make it far in the CL, so will Juve? What does that even mean?

Or was that part of the sentence pointing back at the word "form", at the beginning of the sentence? In the sense that if we make it far in the CL, Juve will regain form? I do hold that as a possibility, but it's not quite common to structure sentences that way

Lol

We are fans. Juventus is the team. We all miss his form. Now, if Juve(the team) make it to the semis, we will get fewer chances against very good teams. Therefore, we will need Matri to be clinical as out of all our strikers, he gas the best chance of being clinical. I should have structured the sentence better, but I hope it's all cleared up now :)

It's simple, we are the fans and Juventus the team at the same time. If we, meaning the fans, miss Matri, then we(the team) will also miss him, but not now. They will miss him when it really counts.
