The claim wasn't that he was the best player in the world, though.

A player who is in the top five in his position can legitimately be said to be world-class.
Chiellini is in the top 5 CB's in Europe would you say he is World Class?

Let's just say that todays best players are Ronaldo, Messi and Drogba.

Does that mean Torres is not a world class player?
Torres is not World Class no.

Ronaldo and Messi are World Class players at the moment because they're lightyears ahead of anybody else.

I am not taking about now. If Kaka were to regain his form, he is absolutely world class. Probably an even better player than Ronaldo. World Class players are those that are capable of changing the course of a game, and the ones that I mentioned are consistenly or have been consistently good at doing it.

Just like Kobe, Jordan, Wade, Howard, and Lebron in the NBA.

He has touched that level at times, but hasn't been consistent enough.

I'd suggest there may well be five better CBs around than him just now.

Kaka was. Now? You've got to be kidding me.
Kaka, after his injury, is in a similar position to Buffon; it remains to be seen what level they will play at after being injured for so long.

Nick, in my opinion you are categorizing players who are/will be all-time football legends as world class players, that is a different matter.

Like when you're a midfielder, a CM, and score 16 goals while assisting 17.

He was by far the most effective player in that positions and surely at the top.

Torres is amazing.
I never said they were bad players but not World Class. World Class is Messi taking his team to a treble, Ronaldo is World Class scoring 40 odd goals in the Premiership and taking United to a Champions League final and Premier League glory.

The ability to carry a team on your shoulders to sucess. That is being a World Class player in my opinion.

Everyone perceives World Class differently but those are my criteria.

Barcelona and Manchester were at least 5 times stronger than Arsenal.

Messi in Arsenal wouldn't carry the whole team like he did in Spain simply because there was lack of quality.
