Iaquinta played a part in wc 2006, Matri is on the fringes of the current much weaker azzurri. There is a reason for this. I'd pick a healty Iaquinta (sadly his career is preety much over) over Matri anytime.
Yes Iaquinta 2006 is better than Matri. But what's the point of this?
Even if Iaq is still healthy, he wouldn't be better than Matri now.

I am just saying Matri is the least talented striker in our squad (Amauri excluded) and also the striker that has the most minutes. Having as our main striker a player with less talent than Iaquinta is frankly very worrying. Especially so as our midfield is easilly good enough for scudetto, defense is solid enough, goalkeeper is Buffon and our coach knows what he is doing. If we don't win a scudetto this year it will be because of our poor poor attack, I mean Vucinic can't do it all alone. Tevez is needed.

I think some people have some sort of a mega phopia when it comes to a striker not scoring for 3 matches in a row. And I don't blame 'em, I remember Amauri, too.

Matri has been poor in the last three matches because of Mirko's absence, it is as simple as that. Matri is the type of striker that needs a second striker to give him the support he needs. Nevertheless, we played the last three games with Pepe and Estigarribia as support for Matri, which was clearly insufficient as neither have the creativity of offensive capabilities to support Matri as Mirko does.

Since Mirko will play next game against Lecce, I expect Matri to have a good game.
