This afternoon, following the inquiry activated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cremona and the recent legal news, president Andrea Agnelli and Antonio Conte held a press conference at the Juventus Center in Vinovo. Their comments were as follows:
Andrea Agnelli
“I can’t hide the fact that, in the light of the activity by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Cremona, the overall current pattern is extremely worrisome for the whole football world. We’re following all developments with concern and disappointment, but considering the whole picture, I don’t think that Conte belongs to this worrisome pattern. Firstly, the role ascribed to Antonio is practically negligible, secondly he’s always shown honesty, integrity and fairness over his whole career, as both Juventus football player and Juventus manager.”
“It’s absolutely fair to respect the inquiry activated by ordinary and sport justice, because they must face a quite complex scene. However the same respectful attitude should be shown to those who found themselves involved in these circumstances which are to be verified. Along with Juventus, I’m personally close to Antonio Conte and Leonardo Bonucci. Leonardo joined us two years ago, he knows how to address stresses, and I wish him to pass through this time as soon as possible in order to enjoy a wonderful European Championship, with a National side which still counts for one-third of Bianconeri players. Next season, we’ll be involved in the Champions League, and Antonio will be our leader.”
Antonio Conte
“I think that my sport career, as both football player and manager is absolutely apparent. I’ve always shown honesty and integrity under all circumstances. You can ask my former teammates, my players, and my rivals too what kind of person Antonio Conte is: he’s a man who wants to win, who also goes beyond his possibilities to achieve his targets. I’ve also been attacked by people armed with sticks under my two-years daughter and my wife’s eyes, and just due to my moral integrity and fairness.”
“With Siena I won the championship three games before the end of the season, with sacrifice, hard work, tears and satisfaction. I’d like to underline my total ignorance of all these facts, as well as that of my players. It was an extraordinary season, and nobody will damage it.”
“I was put under investigation for criminal conspiracy, and my house was thoroughly searched. I read the order and the few words contained therein. I immediately wondered why I wasn’t sent for by the public prosecutor in Cremona before my house search and before being put under investigation. I’d have expected to be heard before such measures were taken.”
