Allegri is protecting him from tough tackling defenders and rough defensive mids?
If Allegri play 433 then we don't really need him in any position. we are in desperate need of a talented attacking midfielder and he can't provide some of those missing pieces.

Ramsey as a regista.. I just don’t see it.
I think this is Allegri's demonstration to the management, kinda "look - the season is about to start and I still have no player capable of playing in front of the defense".

I'm pretty sure he realizes it's pretty dumb but on the other hand you can't just put McKennie or Bentancur there. Arthur had no chance to be tested at all because of his injury too.

Once we land Loca, it seems like Ramsey won't play too much. Not a big issue, he was never fit enough to string 3 games in a row anyway.

Ramsey made his name at Arsenal for his forward runs around the box. It's not like he has some great passing range spraying balls all over the place. So I don't get it either.
At the start of his Arsenal career I can recall him playing a regista role and doing really well.
Most around EPL only get excited around attacking contributions though so little wonder he got hyped when he moved further forward and made those runs you mention. I think he got worse as a footballer in this transition as he became lazy in his defensive work and discipline, which is constantly shown by how slowly he ambles back in stark comparison to the speed he makes forward runs.

Either way, he’s done as a footballer at the top level and is unlikely to stay fit for any sustained period of time.

I don't recall him in that role for Arsenal. But then again, the regista role isn't really something that they've seen a lot of. Jorginho is the only prominent one amongst the big sides, because Liverpool couldn't really get use out of Thiago while City and United basically have DM's holding in there. But maybe we need to make the distinction between regista and just central midfielder. They aren't exactly the same and I don't see Ramsey's skills fulfilling the former. If he was spraying long passes around and dropping back to create like Pjanic or Pirlo did, then maybe it would work. But I just don't see it.

Regista? Allegri must not have watched his games at Arsenal. Ramsey has no interest taking part of the build up.
It is very frustrating watching 60-70 minutes every game, expecting a midfielder to take responsibility and build up play to completely have no interest. Just bomb forward and expect the players in which you were suppose to provide assist for, do it for you.
This guy has already become another Khedira. If he had any honor as a footballer, he would have already rescinded his contract.
Sell but to who? He’s been exposed

OMG! So no Locatelli since we have Ramsey. Hey, let's see what happens but Max will be crucified if he gets hurt and no Loca around. I can't imagined us not getting Locatelli.
