YILDIRIM GOES DUTCH
AMSTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - Marco van Basten is extatic, Ersun Yanal depressed. Free-kick specialist, right winger and technical football player pur sang Ugur Yildirim has decided to play for the Dutch National Team instead of that of his parent's nation Turkey.
Born and raised in the Netherlands but carrying both a Dutch and Turkish passport as his parents are both from Turkey, Yildirim was forced to make this important decision as the national coaches of both nations had called him to wear the national colours.
Yildirm has chosen "reason over passion" as he explains it himself: "I feel more for Turkey but Holland is the better option when the playing style is taken into consideration. Having the Dutch NT on your resumé also looks much better."
Yildirim is expected to make his debut against England in February, in a line-up that will feature a three-man attack that will most likely consist of (from left to right) Robben, Van Nistelrooy and Yildirim.
